Unable to do a Raid 0

Hi Guys,

This is driving me nuts now I have read several explanations on how to do this and even followed the manual and still no luck this is what I have and done:

2 x 240gb Intel 520 ssd's
Asus Rampage Extrenme IV

1)Plugged both ssd's into the 2 6gb (red) intel connector and cd/dvd in a 3gb slot
2)Gone into Bios turned raid on (was originally ahci)
3)CTRL+I on boot and created a raid 0
4)Then boot using windows dvd, click on english language and then next

** before i even select the version of windows 7 i want to install i get a window that says i need a cd/dvd driver??

So assuming it was the iastor driver i inserted a usb with the x64 bit version as thats the version of windows i want to install and it just says failed to install, but if i select x86 version it works which is no good for me.

I have tried x64 bit drivers for various sources and cant get it to work

Any idea's please?:mad::mad::mad:

NB> I did remove all my other drives all that was plugged in was the 2 ssd's and my cd/dvd combo drive
 
are you using latest mb bios? id do that first

tried other sata ports for the dvd drive? you don't need any pre install drivers for raid0 on win7/8 it finds/installs them for you ect

I understand what your saying but seems weird why it accepts 32 bit drivers and not 64bit?

I have never updated the bios from when it first came out so I guess I am just scared i **** it up :)
 
you might need latest bios oprom contained in the newer bios's

clearly its an issue with 64bit as 32bit is fine,aslong as you download/extract the bios file to a usb memory stick and flash from within the bios using ezflash youll be fine

make a note of any oc/bios settings as it will reset them all,after flashing re entert he bios settings then try setting up raid

(you can even take bios screenshots of each bios setting using usb stick and one of the f keys)
 
The 6 gig ports on the rampage are red? I thought they were usually blue, I guess it makes sense with the colour scheme..

Also what happens if you try to setup the raid/install in two 3gb/s ports?
 
both 3gb and 6gb ports should support raid

Guys,

I have managed to get raid 0 working with my 2 intel 520 240gb drives had to install windows using a usb drive and this did the trick.

However if I look in my device manager on windows 7 i only see the following:-

Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller x 2

What happened to the intel driver? and if i load up intel toolbox everything is greyed out and cant select anything?
 
idk whats up,it should be fairly straightforward to setup raid,even from the windows disc

have you tested read/write in atto benchmark to see if your getting raid 0 figures
 
I dont know how to upload pics on here, however I just did a test loading shangai on BF4 and it took 40 secs!!! it took 15 secs on a single SSD lol so surely would be faster on a raid 0 not slower?
 
Can't really trust drive speeds based on how fast a game loads. As wazza mentioned, download some benchmarking software to test the read/write speeds of the raid drive.
 
Have you installed the latest Intel Rapid Storage drivers?

It seemed to make a huge difference when I ran 2 SSD's in RAID 0
 
I know it's a bit late now, but I would have just:

1. Plug drives into Intel chipset drive ports.
2. Set BIOS to RAID.
3. Install OS on one drive.
4. Install Intel Rapid Storage drivers and utilis.
5. Set IRST to migrate the working, installed drive to RAID 0 with the second drive.

It gets around having to supply the RAID drivers at the OS install.
 
I don't understand I used the iastor driver and it detected the c600 Intel sata controller. I don't mind installing os again as long I can get the speeds expected of a ssd. Where do I get software from ?

So if I install os on 1 drive it boots up to the Ctrl + I for raid do I just leave that then install windows then install Intel drivers and tools from where and where do I do the irst and how to get raid 0 after installing on one drive? As I thought creating raid erases the disks?

Once you install IRST on your single boot drive, it will allow you to create RAID arrays, including migrating your data to other disks that you want to use in the array. At this point you have already got the RAID drivers installed on your boot drive, and IRST can handle creating and communicating with the array.

The way you were trying to do it means you need a boot disc with the RAID drivers so that the install disc can communicate with (and install to) the RAID array you've created from within the BIOS. Doing it this way means you have an array, but no drivers to talk to it, hence you needing to provide them at install time.

My suggestion is simple because you already have an OS installation that can talk to the RAID array before you create it, and with IRST installed it handle the creation, communication and migration of data to the array.

So in summary:

1. Set your drives to RAID in the BIOS. Ignore creating RAID arrays in the BIOS OROM.

2. Install the OS on one drive.

3. Install Intel RST.

4. Use the IRST utils to create an array and migrate the existing data (from the drive you installed at step 2).


You will get a slightly misleading "all data will be destroyed" warning, but this is the data on the target drive. You will get to choose which drive's data is migrated, and which drive is wiped (because it will get copied over).

It's pretty simple and self explanatory once you're in IRST. Just read the screens and it makes sense, and make sure you're selecting the correct drives to keep/wipe when creating the array.
