Unbearable pain

i find it hard to understand why you have to wait 2 weeks for your dentist? this is unacceptable. either pester them or go private.

Because of the swelling and infection, they cannot risk taking the tooth out because they will have to cut a lot back to get to it and infection could spread into my blood and surrounding jaw!.

I basically asked the same thing :(, they could've removed it today if it wasn't for the damn stuff going on

yeh. i remember the emergency dentist couldn't take mine out straight away because of the inflamation but the anti-biotics took it down within an hour and by the end of the course of the anti-biotics, it had gone completely. i still didn't take the risk of it coming back though and had it out.

Well, 3days of antibiotics and it's still inflamed. Granted it's not as bad as it was, but i can't wait till it's pulled!

I've had 3 wisdom teeth out, and a molar just the other week with a serious abscess. The worst thing was they removed the molar with a big metal rod, not pliers like you'd expect, imagine sticking a metal rod down the side of the tooth and levering it out, plus the injections don't work so well when you have an abscess.

This was a walk in the park compared to when I did my back in mind. Look after your back!! (you don't appreciate that comment until you realise the impact)

Too True!, my aunt had a crumbling spine and was on high meds and electrostim. Wheelchair for most of her life but she commited suicide :(

Sorry to hear that. I was reading the forums when I did my back in and there are people in constant pain 24 hours a day, so your tooth should be nothing to worry about :)

400mg is only the paracetamol dosage. 400mg Codeine would probably kill you stone dead. It should have two numbers on it, like 400/8 or something.

8mg of Codeine will do nothing. I've been on 30s before, and that left me quite stoned. My mother in law is currently on 60s as she did her back in shovelling snow the other week, and she loses hours at a time taking that.

Presumably they can only legally sell co-codomol over-the-counter if it has a pathetically low amount of codiene.

I was on co-codomol for back pain a couple of years ago and was amazed how well it worked. I went from barely being able to move to walking around perfectly normally. But that was on prescription stuff.

I think 30 Codeine / 500 Paracetamol is considered a fairly strong pescription dose.

I feel your pain, I broke a molar about 3 years ago after smashing my jaw on a curb, the tooth died and I experienced pain I didn't imagine possible, couldn't eat, couldn't sleep, ended up having to go into hospital and then to the emergency dental clinic, they pumped me full of pain killers, filled every gap in the tooth which made the pain just about manageable, 2 days later I had it removed, dentist was surprised I had lasted as long as I had.

I had something similar after a tooth became seriously decayed and the nerves died (thanks for nothing NHS check-ups ) and when they eventually came to remove the tooth several weeks later their comment was "that must have really hurt". I started going private after that...

Hmmm, how long did the pain take to come with an Absess?

I've had a slight pain in my "tooth" that has got worse over the last 3-4 days, still not that bad but I can feel it getting worse. Just at the wrong time too, will have to wait until at least friday before I can do anything about it (Ie sign up to a local dentist and book and appointment). Slightly worried it's going to get very painful and I'm going to have so shell out a lot of money...

Hopefully it'll be something else as it's more the gum than the teeth that hurt (pushing the teeth around doesn't make it worse and it seems to be in between 2 molars not actually a single one)...:(
