Does such a thing exist? Gotta be good looking and reliable for a first car. Not definatly going to get a car but i might so i want to look at the posibilities. Manual and a nice nippy engine which sounds good. Recommend me something :)

Nope, I don't think you can get a 4dr hatchback? 5 doors yes, 4, no...:p

If you can find a decent 306 DT then that'd be good because they have solid engines although they have the usual french electrical problems :p

1.4 205GT? Thats nippy, especially if you get the 85bhp one.

Tis actually 80bhp :p

The injection one is 75bhp (what I had), and then there is the XS which is 85bhp but they're definitely not reliable, nippy yes.

Ahh didnt realise there was any difference in engine between the XS and GT so i just assumed a pre cat one would also be 85bhp.

The engine is the same but they have different carbs on them. The XS has a twin choke solex carb and I'm not sure what the carb GT has but I don't think it's reliable to consider.

I actually want another 205, I felt very connected to the road (if that makes sense), I knew what the car was doing and it was a right laugh to drive.

If the OP wants more info on the 205 I can write up a longish summary of what I think of the 205 if you like. :)

K11 Micra Super S, or SR! :D

Aye 1.3i micras go alright, 0-60 around 10seconds, still very reliable even after 10years.

Sorry, my bad ment 5dr :) 85BHP is a lil too lil :(

Why is it? The car weighs nothing. We are talking a bhp/tonne of ~100. For example if you wanted a Golf to have the same bhp/tonne it would need about 135bhp!

No0o0o0o0o, not the mirca's! I don't really like the look of them :(...the 205gt doesn't look very nice either. I like the look of the 306 but i hear bad things about things falling off them after awhile.

bang on! might have to haggle to get one under £700 though, they're good motors.

You should be able to find one for £700, a few of my mates have bought them for between £550 - £800.

They have around 75bhp = 95ish bhp/tonne, not amazing but not too bad for a granny wagon :p

You cant really be too choosey about looks when you have less than £1k to spend. 306's are generally fairly pricey and certainly wont be very quick.

You could try a Mk2 Golf GTi 8v, insurance is likely to be high though.

AX GT would be a laugh, god knows if they did them in 5 door spec though, doubt it. The 106 and 205 are lard buckets in comparison

Just to spark another argument (and a bit tongue in cheek)

Rover 220 GTi (tho think they may have only been 3 door actually)

ona more serious note - Peugeot 309GTi

He said reliable. :p

Ford Mondeo?
