Lots on these lists are certainly not underrated

The thread title is a contradiction, if it's a cult classic, it's definitely not underrated (even if it was underrated at time of release but that's what make it a cult classic)

I dunno, Event Horizon is a perfect example of a (critically) underrated cult classic.

Something I was thinking about.

There are tons of great movies out there, for example I'm pretty locked in my all time favourite is Terminator 2. Pretty close Aliens, maybe Top Gun, but these are all huge Hollywood movies and all popular.

I'm wondering about that not so obvious ones. Now, doesn't have to be completely obscure either.

A good example of the type of movie, for me is Sunshine (2007).

I seen it 3 or 4 times over the years, the story is predictable, and not that much really happens, but each time I think what a great movie.

Yeah great film. The part with Kaneda repairing the shields and Adagio in D Minor kicks in gives me goosebumps everytime.

I watched some YouTube video years ago, when they discussed the politics of demolition man and how they compared to modern day. Then I watched the film recently as was shocked to how right that YouTube video was and yep they got a lot right.

Yeah, haven't seen southern comfort for years, great movie.might give it a watch again, kinda reminds me of first blood for some reason even though they are nothing alike, great soundtrack too.

Yeah, when I posted that, I realised it is overdue a rewatch. I'm pretty sure my wife will hate it.

I know what you mean about the similarity with First Blood- it's the grimy realism, I think.

I wouldn't say The Warriors is underrated, it's considered a classic. It even had its own video game https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Warriors_(video_game)

The Wanderers is more a underrated cult, similar in a way to the The Warriors but not as famous.
