United States Grand Prix 2013, Austin - Race 18/19

Does it ever rain in Austin much?

No, it is in Texas remember. ;) Try the east coast \ gulf states or the far north-west instead :)

We haven't had a wet race all year I don't think... so disappointing :(

Though Brazil could well be a wet race...

Be careful what you wish for. Having a red flag or the safety car lead the most laps isn't very interesting :p

Are those cookies?

Yes.

Rumours about who will be in the Lotus flying about...

Reports Hulkenberg was offered the seat for the final 2 races which he turned down.
Heikki's name is being championed by some and even Barichello has been mentioned as apparently he was trying to get some funding to race in Brazil as a proper farewell to F1... Pretty much the only names that don't seem to be mentioned much are the 2 Lotus reserve drivers Valsecchi and d'Ambrosio :p

Hulk would have turned it down otherwise he would lose any chance of retaining his seat at Sauber. I think he won't get a seat at Lotus next year because of money. We all know where Maldonado will be next year, unfortunately. :(

I'd quite like to see Heikki given a chance again. As much as it would be nice for Ruben's I don't see him getting the drive.

Ruben's annoys me, he should just let go of F1.

Last time I briefly saw him at a GP, he also looked a little..."round".

To be honest if Sauber can appease their Russian investors somehow and not run Sirotkin (maybe large amounts of Friday testing), keep Hulkenberg and snap up Perez (and his sponsorship) that could be a real decent combination... Lots of ifs though :p

Heikki is decent enough and for 2 races what do they have to lose, they aren't looking to test anyone out so they could do a lot worse, and he's at least had car time this year with Caterham.

Following news that Kimi Raikkonen is to miss the last two races of the Formula 1 season due to ‘back problems’, several other drivers have revealed that they too will be sitting out the remainder of the year.

First to drop out were Ferrari drivers Fernando Alonso, who gave the excuse that his back was ‘still a bit hurty’, and Felipe Massa, who claimed that after signing for Williams he had accidentally ‘thrown away’ all his Ferrari overalls.

Not to be outdone, Lewis Hamilton announced he was missing the last two races on account of having ‘no one to look after the dog’ whilst team mate Nico Rosberg said he mistakenly thought Abu Dhabi was the last race of the year and had ‘booked a two week non-refundable holiday at Center Parcs’.

Other absentees will include Pastor Maldonado, who claimed his seat had got jammed too far toward after the team adjusted it ‘to let Massa have a go’ and Sergio Perez who will be unable to drive on account of ‘crying too much’.

Meanwhile, over at Red Bull Mark Webber will not complete the season because he ‘just can’t be ****ing arsed’.

In total, 20 of the current 22 drivers have elected not to compete in the final two races. As a result, the only entries in this weekend’s US GP will be Sebastian Vettel, who will win as usual, and Marussia’s Max Chilton, who will somehow finish 19th.

Lol.

Makes sense. Getting a temporary driver in who isn't in another race seat currently is far easier than trying to poach someone from another team.

But it does make Valsecchis role look utterly pointless.

I think this is the problem for all reserve drivers at the top teams - we only ever see teams lower down the grid giving their reserves any track time, so when it comes to the front-runners, they don't have anyone who is actually used to the car or has recent F1 experience ready to step up in the event of something like this.

Testing restrictions. The FIA should allow a couple of extra days specifically for new\rookie drivers (including reserve drivers). Since one-off entries basically aren't permitted in F1 (unlike say, the WEC\Indycar\Nascar) that avenue isn't available for a new driver to make an impression.
