Only a 3 for me. Even the start and first few laps were pretty boring. We need both mercs to have poor starts or ideally RB and Ferrari to get even closer to them.
Podium was a mess but quite enjoyed that. :D

Dunno why Alonso didn't get a penalty, to me it was worse than Rosberg/Raikonnen, since massa got damage.

The damage doesn't matter. It all depends on whether there the move was appropriate. If it had been a complete throw the car down the inside at turn 1, he would have got a penalty. But massa had made an error, was slow and was wide going in to the corner, so alonso is allowed to make the move. He was level and on the racing line, he didn't leave massa space as he would have to go to edge of the track, but equally massa turned in to him and didn't leave space either. If we aren't going to allow these types of racing moves, then we can look forward to a Drs based sport in the future.

Sky guys are so dumb, still discussing what happened with Max when he explained literally 40-50 minutes ago when his car stopped. He heard the team tell him to push hard, so expected it would be followed with a pitstop.

IE if Merc tell Hamilton it's hammertime, he'll burn up his tires and expect a pitstop, it's in his mind he's pitting at the end so even if the team didn't tell him to box he might do so accidentally because hammertime is effectively the first half of the pitstop message.

Either way, Max explained perfectly clearly why he thought he was pitting and why he stopped after a while rather than straight away, the sky guys are all becoming idiots.

I was almost shouting at the screen at the time as it was obvious it was stuck in gear or something so couldn't be pushed, you saw the marshalls try and push it but it rolled back desptire Max trying to release it. It was also obvious that he was trying multiple things to get it going which is why he carried on round.

It sucks that Ricciardo lost out but i don't blame Max at all.

So what was the difference between Alonso's dive this race and Rosbergs dive in Germany?

I'll be honest and can't remember a dive in Germany, was that the Verstappen one? Presuming the Verstappen one, there wasn't contact, Rosberg got up the inside with frankly enough room then he as with Austria, just didn't turn, he went to the edge of the track and forced Max off.

This one, the contact was early in the corner, Alonso was alongside very early but the contact makes it very hard to tell if Alonso could have turned and made the corner... I suspect not. I think Alonso steamed up the inside and had Massa tried to go round the outside I think there would still have been contact or been pushed off the track.

At the time I was more convinced it was a 100% Alonso issue, but the good high replay of it there is, Massa certain gives zero ***** about a car being on his inside and making absolutely any attempt at all to leave space on the inside and just turns in. If Massa had kept outside and ALonso still hit him because he was too fast and couldn't make the turn it would have made it 100% ALonso's fault but Massa's whole, turn in regardless thing makes it murky as to what would have happened had he left room.

Seeing the start replays more and more... I once again think Vettel squeezed someone into the first corner with once again zero regard to what might be inside the car he squeezed. Bottas was quite fairly inside Hulk, Hulk was quite fairly where he was. Vettel cut the corner very tight seeing Hulk and again not knowing if anyone was inside Hulk.

If Vettel saw Hulk on the inside curb he could reasonable assume there wasn't someone there but Hulk was in the middle of the track just before the corner, Vettel has so so many times this year just decided on the start to leave no extra room. Hulk had his race completely ruined, so did Bottas and Vettel could easily have gone out from that contact himself. Getting mighty fed up with his careless driving. How many drivers will he smash in the first corner before getting a major penalty.

Were the BBC watching the same race?

Before they pitted Magnussen again Palmer caught him at a very decent rate and then couldn't get by him. He told the team he needed to get past and they didn't do anything.

I'd have been pretty made as Palmer as he had the pace all race over Magnussen in clean air and he caught him easily. Had both been pitted again at the end rather than just Magnussen, Palmer would have had a well, a fair fight with him anyway. Instead they left him out on old tires and let Mag have new ones and he breezed past him. AT least pitting both would have been fair and left it up to them to fight. They let him get stuck behind Mag when he was significantly faster then left him with no chance to defend right at the end against Mag.

Checking the data, after the first stops Palmer stopped a few laps later, Mag got the undercut on fresh tires and he was 8 seconds behind. He gained that pretty quickly got stuck behind Mag. Then they both pitted, again he was stuck behind Mag. Then either Palmer decided to one stop or Magnussen burned up his tires to pull away, stopped again for a 3rd time and had huge pace compared to Palmer at the end.

Palmer's strategy showing consistent ability to catch Mag all race(not quite sure what happened in the first lap to end up behind him, did he have to avoid Perez/Kyvat dropping him 2 places?), then got hung out to dry without a third stop for himself. Had they pitted Palmer even if he didn't pass Mag, he'd have gained the other places against slower drivers on old tires Mag did.

Cant see how it could ever have been Alonso's issue yesterday, he was completely alongside and Massa turned into him.

Baring in mind the contact was front wheel to front wheel , there shouldnt be any issue at all (unless they want to penalise massa, but this seems a little pointless)

So who would you put in next year's Renault if it's between Mag and Jolyon - it's a tough one isn't it.. there's hardly anything in it really, either one going would be a loss for the Sport as I think they've both got great potential in a competitive car.
