Red flag does not mean "Take a look about, decide it is safe, and slow down a bit". It means the following:
"When the signal is given to stop, all cars shall immediately reduce speed and proceed slowly
back to the pit lane"

I just utterly gave up with the whole thing on C4. I think I might have just given up on UK broadcasting of F1 full stop, it appears to somehow gotten worse since the last race I saw.
