Universal basic income to be trialled

The job that will go are train drivers. Any half decent AI could guide a train on time between A and B
I'm guessing it will be one computer controlling all trains.
And maybe a few people like traffic controller types monitoring the busiest sections just to make people feel safer about it.

Have you ever considered being an optimist? :p

On a more serious note, we will end up with a more equitable economy, with some form of UBI, sooner or later.

Because if we don't, it's only a matter of time before the 'have nots' have enough....and eat the rentier parasitic rich.

No! Then I'll only be disappointed! :D

No idea about long term really. But short term it's going to get worse. Until super rich (corps and individuals) can't hide away thier wealth I see a steady decline... For most.

If you can get over that rich poor line, that's different. But it's moving all the time.

At some point there will be so many on the poor side something will give. But that's probably outside my lifetime!

Accountants, many rolls in IT ect pretty much anything that’s computer based can be replaced. Investment bankers the list is endless.

Tradesmen will be safe for a while, I’ll be fine if I choose to stay where I am. I’ll happy swap my job to stay at home though.

You can definitely tell someone doesn't work in IT when they think anything computer based can be replaced easily. Maybe very low end data entry, or help desk type roles. But everything else is pretty much a requirement based on complexity, knowledge and skill.

I'll be amazed to see the day that AI can write bug free code, test it, release it, and deal with endless **** from end users who have managed to find ways to break it.

Software bugs even develop over time through complexity. You could have bug free code on day 1, and several years later it's now running into issues just because.

Who’s going to employ a tradesman if they don’t have a job?

That's what an AI does, run code, examine it and improve itself. At least that is my understanding from a disciple of the intelligence part.

What are you on about?

People don't half go extreme with this stuff. Barring some worldwide natural disaster or nuclear war, the world will be in a better place in 100 years, 500 years time. The trajectory of ourselves is up and up. People have more food, less violence, more freedom, better health, more education than ever before (western world anyway)... Taking the trough of the smaller sine waves over the long term trajectory is daft as ****. No offence or anything :p

Exactly the way I see it is when AI becomes good enough to replace humans is the time currency becomes irrelevant. You do what you want to do because AI robots will do everything for you.

You raise children, enjoy them without the worry or need for money. Enjoy nature, become an astronaut, go race the Monte Carlo, ride a camel through the Sahara. The list would be Endless.

When I've been following the news about UBI people keep mentioning different versions of it.

Does anyone know what the different versions are, or can point me to a website with an explanation of them?

The energy problem will need to be solved first. If we could do that then its a possibility. Won't happen in most of our lifetimes though. Maybe we will end up like The Culture but I fully expect humans to **** it up.
