Unlock your ATI 6950 to a 6970 Thread

Hmmm....kinda feel a little cheated now after buying a 6970 :(

Well at least you have peace of mind that it's passed Q&A.

The early 5850 cores might have imperfections which don't show up immediately and AMD might start laser cutting them when yields get better, unless this is some cunning plan to steal more market share from NVidia. ;) I can definitely see 5850 being the card to have if the unlock rate is high.

There must be a reason that 6970 has 8+6pin though, will flashed 6950's throttle under more demanding conditions?

PCI-E slot = 75W
6-pin = 75W
8-pin = 150W

6950: 225W max.
6970: 300W max.

Your 6 key is typing 5's.

I really would not worry about the extra power draw and the number of pins.
The only concern should be is that if your psu is under 500W (for a single 6970).

You could have a 1200W PSU but if a card is physically limited to only being able to draw 225W when it needs upwards of 300W it might cause problems.

Ok I flashed it....

And

2 powercolor cards, one works fine, the other artifacts in windows.
bugg with gpu-z showing crossfire dosnt work, but it does.
still see some visual glitches when benching and game, not much tho.

I use atiflash with usb and flashed in bios, easier for me.
