Unlock your ATI 6950 to a 6970 Thread

i've just thought , 20+ on the power control makes 12% beyond the specified power limit which is safe but surely if u then oc the card it'll use more power/watt which would make it unsafe?

Dunno.

Having the card at +20 does naff all for performance for me. I have tested it.

Also depends on how far you want to push I guess.

TBH I'm tempted to get another :p

well i successfully flashed a HIS using the batchfiles downloaded at techpower up

not sure what bios it used to be honest as i had a sapphire and a HIS one in the folder

ive ran furmark, heaven and 3dmark 11 without issue

idles at 38C and load at 78C

gunna fire up BC2 now and enjoy it :)

btw , this "PowerTune slider to the +20% setting" is it actually needed ?

no

Well I suck worse than easy when doing this sort of thing which is why I used the "noob" package form techpowerup, just one click and its done. i found the modded bios that in atiwinflash called "unlock.bin" and thats the actual bios thats installed in the card when its flashed. I reckon that bios can be removed and replaced with your bios (the one that leaves the overclocks and Vram timings alone). I just need to identify which of the files in that techpowerup package is the actual bios so I can rename it and copy it to the atiwinflash software. I'm assuming, and please correct me if I've got this all wrong, I should be able to run the noob package and load the new transferred bios which repalced the original.

Yes aslong as you rename the bios to unlock.bin
