Unlock your ATI 6950 to a 6970 Thread

You made your choice so just enjoy your new card? Nice attitude? ROFL

I was trying to make you feel better. Anyway can we not pollute this thread with 6970 justification posts please. Or you'll break your card post's.

Overclocking is done at your own risk. Flashing cards is not a new phenomena either.

I'm not gonna continue to derail the thread

It's quite simple I'm not bothered about you guys, I'm happy for you !!

I'm slightly hacked off with AMD - I wouldn't care if there was something the 6970 could do that the 6950 could not to make it even...but there isnt.

Overclocking was there before this flash so that point it irrelevant.

I will enjoy my card and stick with it but it's still a little slap in the face, that's all - I don't think you're right to have a go at me....

You could have figured out from reviews before you bought your card you could have clocked a 6950 to near 6970 speeds, so you made your choice, this bios flash just unlocks a few shaders thats all.

I've just bought a 1090T, I could have bought a 1055T and clocked it to 1090T speeds, but I didn't as it was for a office PC that needs stability.

You butthurt posts make me smile.

Well this unlocking of extra shaders, etc isn't new. I think it was on the ATI X800XT that had exactly the same thing done to it, shaders locked out in bios, and a flash to a sapphire bios iirc unlocked a further 4 of 'em and this was nearly 6-7 years I reckon. Nvidia also had the same situation with their 6800 cards, you could convert one of these into the next model up by doing just the same thing.
Hell, they even do it with their cpu's, unlocking and extra coupla cores an' all.

This tbh. Always buy the lowest priced one from the top line!

Now lets get this thread back on track :p

I really want to flash my HIS 6950.....

Just used techpowerups easy method using winflash and seems to have worked perfectly according to GPU-Z.

Just need to stress test now.

Is there anyway to make custom fan profiles without using MSI? Such as custom profiles for CCC?

I'm gonna be flashing my 6950 this evening if I get back from the relative's early enough. Doing it under no illusions that its a not given and I might not be able to unlock the extra shaders, BUT imo its worth the risk and the odds are deffo in my favour. I'll do the same when me second 6950 turns up, cheap 6970 Xfire sounds a real nice set up.

I knew about unlocking the cores on their CPUs tbh I didn't know that they have done this in the past with CPUs.

I apologise for my ignorance - but you have to excuse somebody for not knowing as much as the people on here but you have to see it from ppl like my point of view.

I bought a product for X price and the next day it comes out I could have had the inferior product but closer in performance than before for -20% price-wise.

Call it butthurt as much as you want...it's rather childish...but go ahead.

But like I said - not everyone knows as much as you guys nor has the time to research things as much as you do either.

Merry xmas

I'm sorry you took it like that but I don't really care becasue you have misinterpreted.

I think I'm being quite fair.

It's my malcontent with AMD not the lucky people who hopefully can get 6970performance at 6950 prices at a stable state.

Whats the problem with AMD. They could have laser cut the internals. And they haven't.

You made your choice so just enjoy your new card.

Easy, he's not annoyed at anyone who has the card mate. He's just annoyed that he's bought the 6970 then this comes out so now he can't fiddle and join in the fun either. All at the expense of £50 extra to him.

To be honest, I'd be a bit bummed too. I'm even considering DSR of my 5850 MSI Twin Fozr II card that has not arrived yet and buying a 6950. Because of being a little skint, I'd maybe have to put my i5 760 quad on hold and get the i3 530 and clock the heck out of it if I get the 6950 as it won't be a few weeks till I have money again.

What do you think I should do?. Get the 6950 with i3 dual, or keep the 5850 when it arrives and still get the i5 quad?. I'll be overclocking both CPU's to their full potential. Arrrggghh choices. (congrats on the flash btw Easy, I blame you for this change of mind :D)

Quite right. I feel like whizing round the forums and invading every 'which shall I get' thread with the news. If only we'd got this news on christmas day, we'd all be getting cards for £200.
lol yeah. I'm waiting for tomorrow with the small possibility of a today only deal on the 6950. Fingers crossed :P Soon I may be able to share my flashing results with you all :D
