Unlocking 2.G iPhone to 2.1 - PwnageTool and Quickpwn - Mac and Windows.

Sorry, been away from the computer.

You can either, downgrade to 1.1.4, use PwnageTool, or start the Quickpwn process again.

I will update the guide, Quickpwn is obviously playing around.

Just been reading around on the internet and came across two points.

1) The phone has to have a fresh 2.1 install.

Make sure iTunes 8 is open.
Switch your phone off.
Hold down the home button and plug it in.
Keep holding down the home button until a iTunes and cable logo appears.
Hold the shift key and upload the 2.1 firmware.

2. Once this process is done, you must QUIT iTunes, then run QuickPwn.

I took these points from another forum.

ou need to restore your iPhone to factory first before you use QuickPwn.

Insert the sim from the provider you WISH to use first.

Clear down the folder where your iTunes restore files are Should be “C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates” (where %username% is your PC’s profile name)

Open iTunes with the iPhone connected and hold down the ‘home’ button. iTunes should recognise an iPone is connecting in ‘restore mode’. iTunes will now download and install the latest 2.1 firmware. Let it complete this but when it is finished do nothing more than close iTunes. DO NOT ACTIVATE THE PHONE just close iTunes.

Now run QuickPwn select the newly downloaded firmware that iTunes just installed from the folder above, click on and tick all the required boxes, choose the boot file paths and click on, go through all the steps and once the phone reboots you will be active with no prompt to activate! :) Happy Dayzz :)

The crutial part is the iPhone firmware must never have been activated via iTunes in the first place otherwise it will always fail when you change SIM cards.

Hope this helps ricardo.

Did mine late last night, worked perfectly

Is it still working? That is odd...might be your phone. Had a look around the internet and it seems like the wi-fi issue is a problem that sometimes sorts itself out.

So it looks like my 2nd Iphone is on way

Obviously after the first venture into unlocking and jailbreaking I am slightly wary :)

Just wondering do I really need to unlock if I am already on o2 surely I could just jailbreak?

Also if I jailbreak that means if it does go wrong a simple restore and it would be back to norm?

Ziphone wouldnt work with no O2 sim but so far this just worked perfect. Thanks.

*Edit wifi wont seem to connect. will report back.
