Unlocking 2.G iPhone to 2.1 - PwnageTool and Quickpwn - Mac and Windows.

Ziphone wouldnt work with no O2 sim but so far this just worked perfect. Thanks.

*Edit wifi wont seem to connect. will report back.

Which method did you use? What do you mean, no 02 sim? You unlocked it with no SIM in there?

Try switching the phone off then back on again. Can sometimes solve the wi-fi problems.

Yea i dont have a O2 sim kicking around and Ziphone just wouldnt work. im using the windows tutorial you posted. The turning off didnt make any difference. I will give it a few days to see if it fixes itself.

Mine worked flawlessly :) I now have Cydia, installer and Appstore running in my 1st Gen iphone on a Orange PAYG sim :D

Although it should be said in the guide that you need to turn off itunes after restore before running Quickpwn, you mentioned it in a post subsequently but not in the guide. Just to let you know.

Glad it worked.

Good point, I will update the guides.

I had changed the settings a little since i last had a iphone bk in feb which was using ziphone. Alittle off topic but saves making a new thread.

On my old iphone using ziphone on 1.4 the installer had a lot more programs.

Now i have a few diff things like a apple program that i can get software from. Im looking to get the isim(lets you copy all your contacts from your sim to phone memory)?

And i need a IM program to use msn/aim over wifi which is half the reason i bought a iphone again. I cant seem to fine either in the installer or Cydia. Im totally out the loop since i sold my last one so i really have no idea what the best programs are for this nowadays and how to go about getting them.

If you can help cheers.

Installer is not massively supported in 2.1, Cydia has more programs. The official App Store is fantastic and has taken the emphasis away from Installer and Cydia. Now mainly background and jailbreak apps are there. Most of the Games have moved to the App Store for example.

You don't need a SIM program, you can import your SIM contacts by going to Settings > General > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and at the bottom there should be a button to import.

Best off getting an MSN client from the App store. Have a look on there. The best one by a racing mile is BeejiveIM but that costs money but is worth every penny in my opinion. There are plenty of free ones though iirc.

Has anyone else had issues of text being sent multiple times. its only started happening the last few weeks but its really anoying. I still get the odd bit of text and menu lag as well. seriously thinking of switching back to the 1.4, if it wasnt for exchange support keeping me on 2.x

2.x is full of bugs. Are you on 2.1 or 2.0?

Well thx it seems apple have added useful things over the past 6 months. I have got the Bee chat program and while its good it drops the wifi connection when idle. which is a little annoying as it cost £10..
