Unlocking iPhone

You can use pwnage on the PC too, but some of the functions are missing.

Works fine if you have some nice person with a mac who can give you a custom IPSW they made in IPSW builder though.. I did that for a mate last week.

5. Phone back in recovery, load iTunes, Option click restore, pick the pwnage file.
6. Done.. unlocked, activated, installer.app installed and ready to rock and roll.
No need to run any other apps at all.

What are you trying to do? If I were you I would restore it and run pwnage tool which does it all for you. There is a good guide over at mac rumors.
I think you need to add a guide for pwnage tool for your site. If you like I will write a nice simple one for you later today.

I'm confused after reading all this :D

I've just got an iPhone and want to unlock it on my PC. The latest firmware is downloading for it now but after that, which piece of software should I use?

Pwnage
Ziphone
Iliberty+

If I use Pwnage, what functions are missing?
 
To unlock mine i just jailbroke 1.1.3 with ziphone then ran geohots 1.1.2-1.1.3 unlocker program in installer. No messing with the bootloader etc and done in 2mins flat :)

Ziphone messes with the boot loader :)

Is there any reason why you are staying on an old firmware?

Pwnage on a PC is missing quite a lot of functionality, including unlocking the base band. You can do it afterwards with software on the phone, or use the file generated by someone with a mac if you want to. There's less messing around by just using ZiPhone if you have a pc though.

My advice would be to buy a mac then use pwnage ;)

All i did was just jailbreak it nothing else, my original 4.6bl is still untouched :)

Ive read that 1.1.4 is a better firmware but some apps have issues with it so im gunna stick (for now) with 1.1.3

Ah, fair enough.. pwnage is less hassle imo, but needs a mac :)

Can't say i've had any issues with anything on 1.1.4.. 2.0 beta on the other hand :)

Different things.. you don't really have to worry about the bootloader unless you are sending it back, in which case you want to try and make sure it's the same as it was when you got it.

The firmware is the actual software the phone runs, so obviously makes a big difference with new features, bug fixes etc. in each new version. 1.1.4 is the latest final version with 1.2 and 2.0 currently being tested. It normally takes a short while from a new version coming out before it's hacked.. but pwnage managed to do the 2.0 beta in next to no time so it should be a matter of days rather than weeks now :)
 
Ah excellent, I should really think before I ask. It's obvious the firmware is different than the bootloader. :o I'm in a flap at the moment trying to sort out my phone so my brain isnt thinking straight - what's new with version 2.0?
 
v2 is a massive change with lots of the libraries etc being changed to support the new api so we can have "official" 3rd party apps.
 
Sweet! Even though it's all new, the fact new firmware is coming still excites me :P

If I was to use a normal o2 sim card in the o2 iPhone, would it work ok or is the iPhone tied to the o2 sim that's in the phone?

Don't quite get what you mean because you said you used ziphone a few posts up but..

Untouched iPhone = Locked to the sim it comes with and needs to be activated online.

Unlocked iPhone = Any sim apart from Three.
