**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

Currently got Sport Contact 3's on the TT, not sure what to fit next, is the PS4 better than the ASY3 or CS6?

Arguably yes, would probably last longer too, so the extra cost would account for extra mileage I guess.

I have CSC6 and they are great, but if I bought new set now, I'd go PS4.

Got some hankook k117 all round now. Great tyre very quiet and quite firm. However car is tram lining again which it wasn't on the random mismatches I had on lol. Very strange.

Very impressed with my PS4's. Done 1000 miles in a week on them, very confidence inspiring on the twisty roads in southern France, even in the downpours today. Also lovey and quiet on the motorways.

Booked in for a replacement set of tyres on Saturday. Replacing F1AS2s with Michelin Pilot Sport 4s. Hope they are as good as the reviews and anecdotal opinions suggest.

Ordered 2 New tyres (Goodyear Efficientgrip Performance) for the (new to me) Zafira.

Current tyres are absolutely comedy, but knew that when I bought it and paid accordingly.

Front Left: Tigar Hitris (91h)
Rear Left: Wanli s-1088 (91v)
Front Right: Event wl905 (94w - XL Rated!)
Rear Right: Autogrip P308 (91w)

Both the rear left and front right have worn on the inside edges to just over 2mm, so will be swapping the rear right with the front right, and then replacing both the rears for the time being.

Will replace the fronts next month, and get a 4 wheel alignment done to be on the safe side.

4x PilotSport 4s fitted this morning.

Initial impressions fairly pointless until they've bedded in I guess, but they feel a little more responsive than the F1AS2 they replaced. However, could be a placebo/purchase justification, plus new tyres will always feel better than worn.

I've never found new tyres which feel better than old (assuming they are both high quality).

The turn in on old tyres is so much better as the tread blocks don't move around so much.

Just replaced my 2006 335i with a 2006 GS450h as all I am doing is motorway miles. It needs 2 new tyres, with another 2 to follow on in a few months. Size: 245/40/18

I had Avons and KU39's on my 335i, neither of which particular offended me nor wowed me (apart from the fact the Avons on the front didn't want to wear out).

Normally I'd go straight to a ContiSportCcontact 5 or Eagle F1AS3 but this car is going to spend it's time on the motorway at 75mph, so noise/comfort/economy/wear are premium while still having good wet/dry grip. I'd like to get tyres with rim protection if possible, and ideally avoid XL tyres (to lower noise/increase comfort).

Any suggestions? Shortlist at the moment:
Uniroyal rainsport 3 - believe they wear out quickly
Hankook V12 - these seem to very well in tyre tests but can't find one in 18s
Pirelli P Zero Nero GT - No rim protector
Bridgestone T001
Contisport 5 - allrounder with high rolling resistance
Goodyear Eagle F1 AS3 - Allrounder

There's about £30 in the difference from cheapest to best (Eagle F1) so am I just messing considering the others?

KU39 or RS3 for my Skoda? Want good wear and quiet ride for the motorway, but also want them to be able to take the occasional thrashing when needed.

Alternatively take your pick. Trying to keep it to sub £180, so £45 per tyre unless something exceptional is only slightly more - https://www.tyreleader.co.uk/car-ty...]=on&m[48]=on&m[579]=on&m[41]=on&orderby=prix

Currently have Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance's, on about 3MM all round so their time is near. They've also worn oddly on the outside edges.

OK sure. I'd also like to avoid overly soft sidewalls, the amount of 'squidge' on my current tyres when they are pressured up correctly is insane and really contributes to the overall body-roll.

Your current tyres stuffiness wise and wear wise are just LOL. I have ku39s, no issues here tbh. But they're low profile

RS3s don't wear well at all. Think I got 6,000 miles out of a set of rears (Before silly power too) the AD08R on it at the moment aren't wearing that much quicker

Current tyres are wearing great. (Aside from the weird edges) I've done about 8,000 miles since getting the car and the tyres didn't have much more tread when I got it. Maybe 4.5mm front and 3.5mm rear.

I didn't realise RS3's were bad for wear! People have recommended them to me multiple times without mentioning that...

Tyre advice...

...for a lazy idiot (probably). I have a 2009 CLS 350 CDI, does about 2000 miles a year, amd after 3 years of ownership the tyres are a bit rotten (tiny cracks etc). MOT and service due soon, will get this done at the local Merc dealership having already subscribed to the 4 year service plan (not interested if that makes me seem like more of an idiot!).

First question:

Fronts are continental run flats size 275/35R18
Rears are continental run flats size 245/40R18

I have read those off the walls so guessing correct since it has fancy wheels and airmatic does that sound right?

Second:

Various online places quote about £150 a tyre fitted, even at home which is fine, however should I expect the pressure sensors etc to be dealt with accordingly as part of that service? Any experience of Merc Dealer tyre prices appreciated as yes, I've been too lazy to phone them to ask yet, but would expect to have to pay >=£200 a pop (hopefully not a prophetic pun!)

Sorry it's such a dull question.

Thanks all in advance.

Plenty, but have been advised the tyres are 5/6 years old, and suffer from degradation from all sorts of sources and need to be changed. Appreciate that might not be true as such and I may be misinformed, but lets just assume I need/would likethem changed.

Many thanks for the reply though
