**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

Any idea on F1A2 differences as per my above post. Need to order a pair of rears.

I had the same query. I contacted Goodyear about it.

We do list two versions

235/40R18 95Y EAG F1 (ASYMM) 2 XL FP FO1 this is built around the requirements of Ford . Fuel E , Wet C noise 72dB

235/40R18 95Y EAG F1 (ASYMM) 2 XL FP R1 this is a standard replacement tyre , Fuel E , Wet A , noise 70 dB

Please remember tyres are tested by ourselves in 51 categories not just the 3 that labelling requires.

I found it largely unhelpful but it seems to me there are various different versions with different 'OEM Approval'. Some tyre sites display the full model name, others don't. Lovetyres don't, it seems, so you can't see which is which.

I don't think any of the OEM fitments are BMW ones anyway, so in this instance I'd simply pick the one with the 'best' EU tyre rating. It's likely there is little to zero difference anyway.

That's actually very insightful, Ford use the ASY2's on the new ST so I guess it was for Fords own EU test, specifically the 'efficiency' one ;)

I just put the registration plate into blackcircles and it gave the size.

There was a facelift which seems to be around 2007 (56) which changed the alloy style. And 205/50/17 were fitted. But before that the alloy style was fitted with 205/45/17.

So would be it better to change 205/50/17 to 215/45/17? Rather than changing 205/45/17 to 215/45/17?

Be careful going wider than 205 on the Mazda 3. The rims are 17x6.5 - anything over 205 should be on 7" wide rims. They will physically fit, but the tyres could bulge out from the sidewalls.

I personally wouldn't risk it.

205/50/17 are expensive though. I was hoping my tyre costs would reduce going from 225/40/18 on my old car to these, but alas no - £20 a corner dearer!

Just got a set of 225/40/18 and 255/35/18 Eagle F1 AS2's for £563 fully fitted from Bracknell Tyres. Pretty pleased with that. Can't wait to get rid of these run flats!

I'm also coming from 225/40/18! They are cheap for the size. £100 for CS5's

Shame that smaller tyres are more expensive :(

Has anyone had any experiences of the Vredestein Sportrac 5? The Hankook V12 Evos I currently have on the front of my 306 are getting to the point where I want to put them on the back and put two new tyres on the front.

I've found the V12 Evos to be good in anything other than snow which was just embarrasing, but I've seen the Sportrac 5 come up in my size (195/55/15. Speed Rating V).

Just wondering if anyone has had any experiences with the Sportrac 5, or if anyone thinks I'd be better off with another tyre. Could just be a case of better the devil you know, but worth getting opinions.

195/50/15 82W Bridgestone RE002 - £49 each inc postage
195/55/15 85W Bridgestone RE002 - £66 each inc postage

Think it's gotta be the 55's - fill the arch properly and will give a bit more compliance

I've got another set of rimmz for track day tyres, I'm leaning towards 595 RSR's as they're lol cheap and I might be pleasantly surprised. AO48's are £145 a corner which is just rude :(

Yup - I'm not familiar with any tyre manufacturer who these days say the newest tyres should be on the front.
My car came from the factory with SC2's all around. I replaced two of those at 30k miles and had two new SC5's put on the rear and the original rears moved to the front.
Those will reach 40k before they need replacing.
