**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

Will be changing the front tyres on the ST as it had some random crap put on the front by the dealer (annoyingly as there was still a good 4mm left on the eagle F1's it had when i looked at it)

It's got goodyears on the back so am tempted to put a set of AS3's on the front - but I was also very impressed with the ps4's I had on the Skoda so can't quite decide what to do (continental SC6 also available just to mix it up). Leaning towards having them matching but honestly can't see it making a massive difference given the types of tyre we're talking about

I'll be going for PS4's on the 18's that I run on my ST through winter months - had expected to need to replace them before the end of the year but there's a fair bit of life left yet in the AS2's especially if I don't rotate fronts & rears as I would usually.

I'll need new rears soon. 255/35/18. Currently have Goodyear AS2s all round. Fancy getting the PS4s but part of me would hate having Goodyear on the front and Michelin on the rear.

Doh. Didn't think to look there...
Wonder why - it's not a particularly uncommon size!
What's the alternative tyre to go for? MPSS?

Need two new tyres for the front of my Fiesta 195/55/15 (to be rotated with the old ones from the back). Can't make my mind up on the following :

Appears they all are rated fairly well on 2017 Tyre Review

Local garage quoted £80 for some Khumo tyre (per) or £100 for a Dunlop tyre (per) but they couldn't tell me the type of tyre.
Another independent, who knew what they were talking about but are quoting £170 - £190 for a pair of the Dunlop/Continentals listed above.
Or I can go via a website like black circles and pay one of the above fees with fitting at another local garage.

I had Premium Contact 2s on before, and the only time I have ever found them wanting is in deep/standing water on the motorway at 50MPH + never even been remotely near the limit in the dry. The fronts have done 24K (2.5/3mm) and the rears have done the same (5mm)

195/55 is an awfully priced size.

Premium Contact 5 in 195/50 are £30-odd a corner cheaper from camskill than the above

Yeah it's irritating! Not sure why Ford changed from 195/50 to 195/55, would they have changed it for handling characteristics?

Is there anything to be said for buying a newer version if a tyre? The Bridgestone and Pirelli are fairly new, improved offerings. Are they a better choice?

Or is it better to go with something tried and trusted like the Goodyear efficient grip? Or am I overthinking it all and I should just go with whatever comes out cheapest of those 5?

Bought a second hand set of wheels for the Z4, came with pirelli P Zero on the rears with around 5mm of tread and P7 Cinturanos on the front with 6mm, while I know they're not best in class tyres I assume they'll be decent enough to run down?

Current set has CS5s on the front with 5mm and F1A2 on rear with 4mm, I could get them changed over but is it worth it?

The reason those goodyears work out cheapest is because they are H speed rating. I was deciding a similar thing a few weeks back but in 195/60 size which is also a bit high on price. (though not as bad as 55 it seems) I was going to go for the pirelli originally but I've since decided to just pony up the extra and go with the michelin crossclimate. They seem to perform as well as a touring summer tyre in the summer and significantly better than any summer tyre in the winter. (be it snowy or just plain cold/wet) It might well be outclassed in the summer by the various UHP summer tyres, but since they can't be had in 15" sizes, it seems I'm not really making a compromise anyway.

I figure my old tyres, and OEM, were H rated, may as well put the same on. In the end I booked in tomorrow for a pair of Dunlop Sport BluResponse, figure they'll be a decent replacement for a pair of Continental Premium Contact 2.

Need some tyres for my 2012 Focus, Size 215/50/R17/W. Need a set of four. Was thinking of the contact 6's but I've noticed the goodyear efficient grip performance which a are £26 cheaper each. Any suggestions?

Nah they won't be. The Efficient Grip Performance tyres are about the best you get at 15" - and they're not bad at all!
