**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

I think a little more research on this subject would be prudent. The risk is that in the wet, oversteer is far more likely than it otherwise would be, hence the recommendation to put them on the rear to counter this.

I understand why it is recommended, but I've only ever had understeer in the wet, and thats usually a) when provoked somewhat and b) with nearly new front tyres, and rear tyres that are coming to the end of their life. Both the same tyre (Conti SC5s).

Unless you're lifting off or braking mid-corner, I suppose..

My theory is that in an FWD car the front wheels do the steering, acceleration and most of the braking, ergo they're quite important especially braking in the wet.

Yeh I agree Howard. I never had oversteer in a FWD unless trying to LOOS. But it really depends on how much tread is at the rear and what brand/model of tyre it is compared with what you'll be fitting up front.

Oh yeah if you've got nearly-bald Pirelli P6000s at the back then you're asking for it, but if everything is otherwise equal, i.e. Conti SC5s or whatever all round and the rears have maybe 3-5mm of tread..

Just realised my rear tyres are a lot lower than i thought they were. :/ It's strange because in all of the very heavy rain we've had recently i have noticed absolutely no drop off in grip (and i haven't been granny driving). I have been through unexpected standing water at speed and the car has barely noticed.

I've said it before and i'll say it again - these Goodyear Eagle F1A2's really are fantastic. Although the rears have come to the end of their life in 13 months and around 15k miles, but this has included almost all fast back road driving and one track day. I am suitably impressed - they are not only cheaper than most UHP tyres, they have better rolling resistance, last an ok amount of time and grip like nothing else i've tried.

And as an added bonus, Goodyear are doing a fuel promotion!

Lies. You've been oversteering all over the place.

I'm tempted to try the F1A2s when my CSC5s wear out. They sound rather good. Mind you, so are the CSC5s.

I know why it's suggested, but in real terms understeer is far more likely in normal driving circumstances unless you're powering away from a bend in an RWD car, and if you've got crap tyres at the front and brand new ones at the rear, your braking ability is somewhat lacking, as well. IMHO.

I had rubbish no-brand tyres on the rear with lots of tread, and similar on the front but pretty much done - no issues. Bought new decent front tyres (CSC2s) and was getting oversteer with little provocation in the wet on roundabouts and such, even at quite sedate speeds. Swapped them to the front and no more problems apart from a little understeer sometimes.. until more recently with comedy levels in the wet. Now replaced with more CSC2s and all is well again!

it seems I literally can't get the Goodyear F1 AS2's anywhere, irrespective of price or fitted/just delivered.Everyone is waiting for stock from Goodyear.

Conti Sport Contact 5's are proving almost as elusive. Places that do have them want £130+ a tyre.

Been offered the P Zero Nero's for £396 fitted from a local garage. Think I'm going to take them up on it.

What is the size? I just got some AS2's fitted today and had no problem finding stock when looking online.

Nero is an old model isn't it, the plain 'P Zero' is the award winning really nice one.

Aha, Didn't know there was a difference. I'll see if they are available in my size. Frustratingly, it seems that the tyre choice is quite frankly appalling. It's either total crap or out of stock.

It seems no where carries them as a 'common' size. Every local garage within about 25 miles says they order direct as and when required. Goodyear have no stock, and won't be getting any until Late December-March depending on which garage I've spoken to.

All the online places either say they have stock, and then don't when you question them, or just don't have stock. There is probably a garage somewhere with them priced at £150+ a tyre or some stupidity like that. I've had a price of £436 fully fitted, so I don't see it easy to justify spending much more than £500 on them if someone has them in stock, simply because it feels like a rip off !

Goodyear themselves are supplying and fitting your tyres?

Sure it's not HiQ?

Apologies, Goodyear will be delivering them to the garage. Should have been clear.

No real details as to how we went from December->March to a guaranteed delivery date. Guess it was overdue to the Goodyear Depot or whatever they have here, and they didn't have a shipping date so guessed. Just odd every garage guessed the same.

Pleased I'll be getting them on the car though. You really like yours don't you fox?
