**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

I'd be interested to hear how you find them as the tread has been substantiality changed to an asymmetric design, the previous rs2 seemed to be an upper midrang tyre so maybe this model has higher sights, which is strang as it will put it in direct competition with the premium contact 5 and possibly the sport contact 5..

Will keep you updated, however nothing to report on the first 40 odd miles.

Ive got my new continental winter contact TS850s on the Civic, so far the 5 miles ive driven were quiet and comfortable, ill update once they've worn in and there has been some weather :)

Are you saying I can ignore the manufactures recommended spec for tyres and put on tyres that are not XL and if anything happens and insurance company say's "sorry your tyres are not same as specified" the insurance company will still pay out ??

Budget winters, why compromise your non snow performance when you can destroy it? :p

Now I'm hardly going to be slinging a set of sottozeros on a 100 bhp taxi now

The gt tyres might not be the top tier of the tyre tree but they are far superior to the dunlops they replaced in minus temperatures and I would say just and good if not better on the warmer days too albeit with a bit more rod noise. And not being £200 a corner I won't grumble too much when I have to put another set on in January.

The temp has suddenly dropped to 2*-3* in the mornings and ive just fitted a new set of summer tyres

Had no issues what so ever this morning on the commute...and that included having to emergency stop because someone had parked on a sharp bend.:p

Why not? The power is irrelevent, it still does the speed limit, right? Plus you are carrying fare paying passengers in it, safety is paramount :p

I would be somewhat suprised.

Was the saving over something half decent even that much? In normal sizes even quality winters are cheap. Paid 60 quid a tyre plus fitting for 15 inch Goodyears.

Why were you travelling so fast that you had to perform an emergency stop?

I had to do an emergency stop the other day, i was doing a mighty speed of 30mph. Stupid yoof in black clothes in the dark decided he was crossing the road regardless of traffic.

You don't need to be going fast in order to come across a situation where you need to stop or massively reduce speed as soon as physically possible. That's why choosing tyres is critical, you never know when some ding bat is going to pull out on you or decide thier car needs to occupy the space yours is in.
Its uncontrollable situations like that where you really need your tyres to work.

That wasn't his point I don't think, he wasn't talking about any emergency stop.

Anyone else bought Vredesteins and noticed they have nearly no "running in" period?

Ive just started my forth set of Vredestein (first set of Centos though) and found again, they work normally straight off the shelf without having to wait a few hundred miles
