**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

Does anyone know what the differences are between these two MPSS tyres? What is the GRNX or N0 code at the end?

265/35 ZR19 (98Y) XL with rim protection ridge (FSL) GRNX

265/35 ZR19 (98Y) XL with rim protection ridge (FSL) N0

N0 is Porsche type approval.

GRNX is Green X technology

Anyone recommend tyres in my price range, £400 for all four.

Front are 225/45/R17
Rear are 245/40/R17

No idea why the tyres are different size, just what was on it when I got the car. Which is a Mercedes C180 4 door. I don't drive fast or hard, just more of a casual driver, as long as they are grippy in the wet.

Cheers

Right, what are the "rules" for AWD cars?

When I bought mine (X type 2.5), one of the fronts had a big gouge in the side, so had them both swapped. The garage only had Kumho KU39s in the right size (225/45/17) so put those on - they're not the best but fine for this sort of car I'd have thought.

When I was having the A/C regassed yesterday, ATS apparently measure the tyre depth and pressures and said that the rears are getting low (3.5-4mm). The guy said that on an AWD car, you should change all 4 at the same time and have all 4 as the same tyre.

I'm sure the former is nonsense, but is it necessary to keep the same tyres all round? I'm fairly happy with the Kumhos so it's no big deal to put those on the back, but given more time there are better tyres out there for the money

Depends on the wear rate, you don't need to change all 4 at once, but it *could* be interpreted as a recommended option.

Like any car, change 2 at a time minimum... always change an axle at a time.

Ideally you should have all 4 as the same tyre on any car... but it doesn't really matter as long as their grip levels are similar.

Again, just keep them the same per axle... so if you prefer something that aren't kumhos, stick the new tyres on the rear and replace the kuhmos whenever they need it with that new brand/model.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, the Kumhos arent bad tyres at all but they're only slightly cheaper than others if I was ordering online so may as well get something better. In which case, given the sort of car it is - unlikely to be throwing it around country lanes, quietness, traction and wet weather performance are priorities, I can have (Prices fitted from blackcircles)

- Bridgestone S001 - £76.04 (had these on my Skoda and they seemed pretty good)
- Uniroyal Rainsport 3 - £95.78 (lots of people rave about these)
- Pirelli P7 Cinturato or P Zero Nero GT - £74 or £78 respectively
- Vredstein Ultrac Sessanta, Cento or Vorti - all about £80
- Dunlop SP Sport FastResponse or Maxx RT - both £79
- Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance or F1AS2 - £82 or £84
- Conti SC5 - £85
- Michelin Primacy HP or PS3 - £86 or £88

Conti seems like the no brainer out of those?

Interesting..... a real concern or a way to sell more tyres?

Depending on the AWD system, i think it can cause excess center diff wear / heat in the clutch packs, no idea how different the tyres front to back would need to be for issues.

I should really check this out to make sure my car is ok.

I know a few people on here use Tyre Leader, myself included, but a friend is currently having an awful experience with them and their customer service department which I thought I'd share.

He ordered a set of tyres from them on 11th October, there was an attempted delivery by DPD, for which he then tried to arrange a collection from their warehouse. He rang to arrange this, when they then told him, they are returning the tyres to Tyre Leader as per their policy.

The tyres arrived at Tyre Leader on 22nd October, to which they do not accept despite tracking information showing this, and confirmation from DPD.

Tyre Leader are still yet to send out the tyres they received back from DPD, nor have they even set out replacement tyres in the mean time.

Well I decided to get the rears changed too - went for 255 rather than 245 and stuck with the CSC5, but got the CSC5P version (which is a slight update?). Will be fitted on Sunday. Hopefully will help me get a little more power down. Came to £288 for the rears. Quite an expensive month :)

I *thought* I had Michelin Super Sports fitted yesterday at SETyres however having just checked it appears they actually charged me for Super Sports but fitted Pilot Sports...

Can anyone please confirm as I can't see anywhere on the tyre that says they're Super Sports - I can only see "Pilot Sport" on the tyre.

I normally check things like this as soon as they're fitted but was in a rush yesterday and it was ******* down with rain! :(

Yep, they're PS2 tyres. Annoying! I actually ordered through Asda which were every competitive but it appears they supplied the wrong tyre to Setyres who then proceeded to fit the wrong tyre!
