**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

Only just seen this thread.

Running Yokohama ad08rs in 205/50/15 on Integra DC2. Very very grippy tyre, don't need any more grip for a road car - grip in dry is that good emergency break car feels it will lift the tarmac! very good in the wet also just cuts into standing water. would have liked the ad08rs to have slightly stiffer sidewalls, however there not soft enough to be a concern. Very responsive steering due to grip of the tyre. Previous tyre on this car was Hankook RS2 that was sold as a fast road / track day car, preferred the feel from the RS2 but grip from ad08rs's is better at all times.

Will likely use ad08rs's again if there still available, not many good choices in 205/50/15 anymore.

Realised afterwards those Turanza T005s are runflats. Might be another reason for the improved comfort with the Crossclimate 2s.

Just paid almost £800 for 4x Continental Sport contact 7’s (245/40/R19) fully fitted at our local ATS who I’ve used before and they’re good guys. the Bridgestones (T005s) on the Cupra are 10000 hard miles old (Original tyres) and today MrsHB came back with a slow puncture in one of the rears.

I almost opted for the Michelin PS4S but that was an additional £39 a corner, and the stats and reviews on the Continentals looked good, so thought I’d give them a go. Being fitted on Monday.

The sport contact 7s are really good. I used to have them on my 335D.

I was going to get them again for my 440i but costco had a deal on goodyear eagle F1 asymmetric 6 which was 2 x 255/35/19 and 2 x 225/40/19 for like £450 or so which was too crazy to pass up. I have been very pleased with them, I know they don't quite fall into the same performance category as the PS4S / sportcontact 7 but at the price I couldn't argue.

Well I found the Michelin CC2s have another bonus - you can floor it in the wet at traffic lights and it keeps the diesel torque fully transmitted to the road. Also grip far better on our local Surrey badly maintained roads.

I actually find they struggle a bit with diesel torque especially on the Navara (550nm) which granted is normally in rear wheel drive on the road without much weight over the axel relative to the vehicle.

They do far better than I expected on rough roads - thought they might be a bit too soft and maybe won't stand up to the abuse that remains to be seen, but no dramas on roads which can upset a summer tyre and seem to cope as well in light off-road as the road bias light off-road tyres do.

Ahh this isn't a rocket ship :D a 1.6D 6 speed auto with ground shaking 240nm 88kW but all the weight is on the front and it's only 1447 Kg kerbside.

Likewise the majority of our roads here are not smooth (even for tarmac) and either get slimy from organics or get slimy from road traffic. Longer term experience has show they seemed happy on French roads at higher speeds too (130km/h) but this where the first gen of this car needed 30hp more to help and given I have mud flaps (not common on this car) and the CC2s both steal some horsepower it can make overtaking at that speed something that can be problem with some of the hills they have when going to Abville. The car's rear has a tendency to skip around (noticeable when driving but not as a passenger) in unsettling roads without any rear weight, and I've not had that since fitting the CC2s.

So experience (4-5months) is that they're better overall grip in winter in the UK with a downside of a little more road noise and absorb a little power meaning a little more fuel consumption.

Hello. Im in the market for a full set of tyres for my 2.5l Mazda 6. I really cant afford to go with anything too expensive (who can at the minute) Im looking for 225/45/18s. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Might be worth giving an idea of what you can afford.
National are doing 4 Goodyear F1 A5 for £470ish fitted at the minute, which seems reasonable

Friend just stuck 4 Nexen A1 tyres, same size tyres on his BMW, cost £101 per corner. Has not had a problem with them and is happy.

Dunno about the A1 but the Qashqai I have came with RU1s and they were OK but not great in the wet or cold. Quite grippy but without any finesse to the grip.

I was out in some horrendous rain and wind today and they performed flawlessly - mild(ish) wet handling is one area they tend to trail the pack though they do well in aquaplaning resistance.

There is one place on a bend near a works entrance which gets pretty slick (probably some oil or diesel from the lorries) where I've had issues before on cheaper tyres and could see other people ahead of me having to correct today - they didn't budge an inch.

I posted this in the BMW thread but anyone know if its ok to put non-spec tyres on BMW? Looking at Contact 7s which have Maserati "MGT" on them. Dont really want PS4S as the contacts are better, just upgrading from 20 to 21 wheels on the 640d.
245/35 21
285/30 21

I emailed Conti and they said:

The MGT tyres are dedicated for Maserati, normally you should not have an issues if all 4 tyres will be changed, however the tyre specification is select by the vehicle manufacturer not ourselves I’m afraid. Therefore I would strongly recommend to contact with BMW technical department to confirm this fitment (especially if your car came with SSR tyres as an original equipment).

No point asking BMW, they'll just say buy whatever brand they're promoting these days or PS4S
