Unreal Engine 5 - unbelievable.

Every few generations the consoles released leap ahead of PC Gaming GPU's for a few months then either through driver optimisations or new releases the PC gains advantage. It doesnt really matter. This time round the consoles will probably be released with the advantage as its not happened for a while then afterwards the 3xxx series cards will bring it back to the PC and possibly AMD's release will also count.
Not everyone buys the most expensive GPUs as soon as they release.

The king is dead .....long live the king......

but seriously .... why not both?

Damn those rocks, landslide physics and lighting look stunning! If that level of detail can genuinely be achieved on a gaming console costing around £500 then a lot of people are going to be very impressed myself included.

Yeah I think the fact that you can achieve something like this on a piece of hardware that will be available to purchase for £500 is the big thing.
That's seriously impressive for that kind of price.

It would only cost around £800 on pc tbh if you bought at the right time. I get that is much more expensive but a pc can do a lot more than just play games.

£400- 2070 super
B450 tomahawk - £80
3600 - £140
16gb crucial Ballistix lt sport - £70

Leaving £110 for a case, psu and hard drive is slim but second hand it could easily be done.

Also I think consoles will be cheaper wasn't the ps4 £350 at launch? £150 increase is too much.

They sell the consoles as a loss leader to recoup money through software sales.

Also consoles have always been good value for money.

I have had every PlayStation on launch day. This may be the first time I don't have one. I feel pc is superior for me at the moment. I have invested far too much into my setup to buy a console.

Thr console is a much better casual experience though.

It's funny, was reading Tim Sweeney's tweets earlier, he said:

Those PC numbers are theoretical, and are from drive into kernel memory. From there, it's a slow and circuitous journey through software decompression to GPU driver swizzling into video memory where you can eventually use it. The PS5 path for this is several times more efficient.
And then there's latency...

Then randomly (?) YT recommends me this:

yeah some people seem to miss that point

Also don't forget the fact that the consoles having that power means games will also improve for us on pc

After the reveal of Unreal Engine 5 on PlayStation 5, it was also announced that Fortnite will begin using Unreal Engine 5 in 2021. The PlayStation 5 Unreal Engine 5 tech demo has sparked some inquiries as to whether the demo will turn into a real game, even though the goal was to simply showcase the capabilities and visual quality of Unreal Engine 5, which will allow creators to utilize new features in order to make games and movies feel even closer to real life.
...
Epic Games has also recently announced that their popular shooter will be releasing on both upcoming next-generation PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles.

It was more then just a tech demo. And I await PS5/XSX frame rate comparison vs PC when compared to cost between the 2.

Yes it will be very interesting to see how this does improve PC gaming as it has long been somewhat hampered by the consoles. AAA games cost so much to develop as it is, so upping the base level to this standard should be a boon for us as well.

Personally I can’t wait for the PS5. They have the best exclusives by far.

The thing is, the console tech is a snapshot in time. On it's day of release... probably on par with a decent PC, there's the lack of overheads from moving graphics/detail/etc to match different specs, it's the same kit, the engine can be built to leverage a monolithic system spec "better" than it's base hardware would say.
Even 6 months later... you'll see PC tech surge ahead, partly driven by the better ports/etc from the new level of console tech just released and it gallops well ahead by the next release and reset.

It's fine, it's circular, it always goes like this.

It's done so poorly in some current titles that you can notice the detail changing rather dramatically and it completely breaks immersion.

I'd get this quote if you were plugged into 'The Matrix' but you're playing a *video game* not trying to stop Agent Smith from destroying the world. You get that, right? External factors just don't disappear when you start playing...

:D

UE5 tech demo on a RTX 2080 & 970 EVO Plus notebook is 1440p40
Epic China engineers’ interview, if you know Chinese you can confirm it by yourself.

https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1kK411W7fK

  • 53:00, he said his notebook could run at 1440p 40fps+, optimization target is 60fps for next-gen.

  • 2:08:00, SSD bandwidth (for the flying part) isn’t as that high as ppl said, not need a stricted spec SSD (decent SSD is ok).

  • Someone at TGFCer forum said, the engineer just confirmed to him: RTX 2080 GPU notebook but forgot the exact SSD model, maybe 970 EVO Plus

Even if I don't necessarily believe the validity of it, that's just beautiful.
