I read something about this some time ago. I think you're over-egging the pudding somewhat.

Going purely on memory, it was a surprisingly low increase in narrow-hipped women. Going from something like 5 in 100 women who were unable to give birth naturally 50 years ago to about 6 in 100 now.

Unrealistic body standards... such a stupid phrase. How is it unrealistic when there are real women out there who look like that?

It's just the usual tripe spouted by bitter, fat women who are sad that they can't stop shoving cake in their mouth-holes, and envious that fit women look fit.

it's true to a certain extent, I mean it's an unrealistic to think I could look like a prime 80's Arnold Schwarzenegger.:p

Probably because it's largely genetic. The thigh gap ladies body in the OP wouldn't be attainable simply by training and a healthy diet. She obviously looks after herself but is also blessed with great genetics.

It shouldn't stop people trying of course and I'm the first to complain about lazy fat people moaning about their situation.
 
Insecure people projecting their own insecurities on someone else.

Its very sad that they can't accept themselves.

I wouldn't date anyone who was so obsessed with looks. I can guess what their favourite conversation subject is; themselves!

What makes me laugh is;

Slim Woman with slight abs- completely unrealistic, no 'real' women look like that

Man who looks like he is from the Gears of War Universe - This is fine, why don't you guys get into the gym to look like that.

Yeah double standard. The amount of girls who say they aren't interested in men under 6ft is crazy, Imagine openly putting on a dating profile only women under 10st please.

And what's been the increase in obesity in that time?
 
To be honest, the women on Love Island I can imagine are done up so much that take it off and they're probably average as ****.

Personally, all the "fit" girls I've ever met have been pretty much clones of each other. The ones who are "fit" but aren't obsessed with it often are actually interesting.
 
I had a good friend in the late eighties / early nineties who just looked exactly like Magnum PI (Tom Selleck). If I went into a pub or club with him you could literally hear the women gasp and within minutes they were all over him like fleas. I was invisible.... ;) He constantly had girls with film star looks hanging off his arm. We always joked that he could have had more women than all of us put together. I lost touch for a few years then by chance met up with him again. He had a lady with him who one could only describe as dowdy, if not plug ugly. Turned out it was his wife of 9 months.

After a few beers he broached the subject by saying "Yeah, I know what you're thinking, she's no looker is she?" It was undeniable so I had to agree. He went on to say he'd had years of dim bints who treated him like he would have treated the loan of a new Ferrari for the week, and got towed around various places as a trophy. He could count meaningful conversations and good natured humour from them on one hand. The money he'd wasted "living the high life" was criminal. He had met this woman and was slowly taken by her self confidence, easy manner, humorous disposition and intelligence. Within a year they'd married and he could not have been happier. The downside was bitchy remarks from bimbos of the like "What the `ell are you doing with `er?". He had honed his reply to "Going back to our home to make some babies" ;)

A lot of young women are totally self absorbed and vacuous. Not to mention cosmetically "enhanced" at a ludicrously young age and tattooed like a Victorian sailor, with the vocabulary to match.
