Really? I'd tried to be as objective as possible.

How else would you have worded it?

Maybe I'm being a bit narrow minded so apologies if so, but my first thought was to pick the "I would go, and complain to HR" option, of which there isn't one. Eg an option for it being unreasonable (which it is), and then to complain through the appropriate official channels sorta thing.

Care homes take the ****, they can do because the market is saturated with 17 - 30 year olds with 'carer' qualifications. If your Mrs doesn't want to do it, there is plenty more down the agency that will.

Yeah. Seems a cowboy outfit and the appropriate channel would be your manager - who called the meeting and arranged the training.

Pretty much the same problem in the transport industry, in my case, there's an even greater issue with such a huge waiting list of people wanting to drive for my employers due to their high profile image & TV show etc, this seems to generate an attitude of "if you don't like it, the gate is over there.." from some of the traffic planners, not the best way of keeping drivers happy!!!

Bah! I voted No, thinking the question was 'would you go in to the meeting'. Does a passing mod have the power to move my vote to Yes?
Same here.

Appalling management to expect anyone to agree to this. More so to suggest it was "mandatory". I would politely point out that what they were asking was illegal.

No, **** that. I would just clearly say that I didn't have time to make arrangements for my kids, and ask how they'd feel about a training session at 2AM followed by a meeting at 5AM and then a 12 hour working day.

It's dangerous for X and for the patients. A potential problem could also damage the reputation of the employer. No one wins with this kind of attitude. Any sane company would see that.

Every right to refuse, as already said not enough rest period.

Depends what the job entailed(ie if they could put you on something where you just needed to be there and not do anything) and what they were offering in compensation
