Update on broken seal 780ti's

In regards to this, if we open the box and find a seal broken.

Are we within our rights to return the item?

I haven't had this problem before but I can imagine spending £500 on a part and expecting it to be brand new and unopened and it arriving not in this state would be a tad annoying.

I must admit I had been wondering about CPUs lately. OcUK have an impressive spec of systems & bundles, most of them using overclocked 4770k and 4670k. Does that mean that the rest of us are left with "the runt of the litter" after OcUK have picked the best CPUs for their systems?

Well within right, they are selling already opened items which makes them pre-owned and used and selling them as "New" which is very illegal which is something I don't think OCUK understand or care about, It's a very serious violation.

What's the chance the someone from OCUK is going to come into this thread either close it or say "Well er errrr people at the factory might of checked a serial number on that card to make sure it was a GPU and not a toaster" or "sometimes we need to make sure the card is in the box because errrr it might not be in there..........."

Gibbo came in earlier and refuted allegations that they were being tested. Lots of reports of people's cards coming with dust in the fans and fingerprints over the shroud makes me wonder though...

Well as much as I like OCUK and their staff they are not going to admit to opening boxes testing equipment and then selling it as "New" which as I said is illegal.

I don't care who says what from OCUK, A GPU does not come from the manufacturer with dust in the cooler, PCI-E protective cover removed and thrown in the box, Fingerprints on the back plate and the security seal already broken.

This was done by the retailer, I have ordered GPU's from the "other" e-tailers and have never had a GPU been used unlike OCUK which is nearly every time.

This was done at OCUK plain and simple.

Sadly all you need is one bad egg. As i said earlier my Asus Maximus VII Gene arrived this week with finger prints around the socket, heat sinks and battery. I'm not saying it was used but it appears someone had a good look at it.

Sadly it's not just 1 bad egg, Hell there's a whole chicken coop laying a mountain of them right now.

Simple way for OCUK to fix this and restore faith, Stop opening the damn boxes.

And if you do open them to check for something tell the customer and offer them a discount.

Agree dicehunter. Thats why I've stopped buying GPU's from OCUK altogether. every time I bought from here the box was open. Every time!!!! The last 3 I bought elsewhere have been sealed. I buy other stuff here and don't have this issue. It seems to be mostly GPU's?...

If it was purely AMD cards you could be cheeky and saying they were using them for mining before sending them out :p ;)

I think you will find i have been very careful not to make a single accusation for the very reason that the evidence is not 100% even though a significant number of cases have been reported in this thread.

Do other retailers offer you free stuff if an item doesn't meet your expectations... No they just you a returns label and ask you which day you want the item picked up.

You're joining dots which aren't there. The fact OCUK is the only etailer that offers you free stuff is better CS, not them admitting their at fault.

15k graphics cards in 3 months, and we have 7 or 8 complaints in this thread....yes, that really is mounting evidence of 'shady tactics' as you put.

How many of the people that bought cards post on the forums though? The fact that there is complaints about opened packages shows there is something going on mate. I don't know what, but they are being opened for some reason

Your entire argument reminds me of the 3 red rings of death problems 8 years ago, then people said it was an isolated problem and the millions of xbox's sold shows that this is not MS's fault... then look what happened when people became aware and took note!

I'm betting a large portion of people who buy GPU's here dont even bother reporting this mainly because they aren't that bothered if the box has been opened.

It still is a problem and needs to be fixed ASAP, When I buy a £500+ GPU I expect the only people to of handled it to be the people who made it and not the e-tailer "Checking the inside of the box".
