Updated 2012 F1 Sporting and Technical regulations

Yes there was, you could make 1 defensive move then go back to the line, this new rule stops that.

Malaysia Lewis weaved all down the straight

Hamilton was punished for breaching Article 20.2 of the Sporting Regulations - which states that 'manoeuvres liable to hinder other drivers, such as more than one change of direction to defend a position...are not permitted."

because you could move off line to defend, then move back onto line to take the corner, they are now saying if you make one move to defend then you can't go back to the racing line, so defending will leave you offline.

But that statement about Lewis said about making more than one move to defend. Moving off line and then back on is 2 moves, so should already be covered?

Unless this is clarifying defensive moves as seperate to moves that 'hinder a driver'?

Trouble is, do they now have to define where the racing line is around the whole track to be able to enforce this? On some long straights there isn't really a 'racing line' to speak of...

Its all a bit, odd.

it will be the line they move off in the first place

Yes he made more than one move to defend, he weaved all down the straight, now they can make one move to defend and that is it.

Meanwhile... Jenson seems to have a good feeling for next years car...

JB tweet: "Now in at MTC for my second day of seat fit in our 2012 beast!! Got a good feeling ;-)"

It seems to me that RBR, McLaren and Ferrari all seem to think they have an awesome car next year. Have they all simply discovered the same aero concept as each other?

How would they know that?

Engage some thought for a moment and of course in isolation each car is going to feel great, they will have hyped each engineering concept internally. Jenson's comment is nothing more than a superstition until they hit the track for some testing mileage.

Drivers may no longer move back onto the racing line having moved off it to defend a position.

So to defend a position now, you have to maintain a retarded line through the corner, and will likely lose the position anyway due to said unorthodox line?

Hmmm....

Agree with SC rule though. The backmarkers have influenced too many races for my liking this year. Getting them out of the way more often would be welcomed.

I guarantee we will see moaning about the SC rule in the race threads next year when we waste 3 laps waiting for the backmarkers to pass and join the back of the queue.

I like all the new rules even the "Drivers may no longer move back onto the racing line having moved off it to defend a position" sounds good to me..

probably brough about by hamilton and massa... now they will have no excuses for any coming togethers

Not really they never hit each other in moments like that, it's to stop the likes of MS v Lewis at Monza when MS took it to the limit as usual :)
