Updated 2012 F1 Sporting and Technical regulations

Id say that's exactly right, its a rule to stop the Monza moves happening again.

A shame really, as while it was right up to the limit, it was thoroughly enjoyable and nail biting to watch.

Good news about lapped cars being able to unlap themselves under a satey car restart and the return of in-season testing. Also the rule about no cutting on in-laps is obviously a response to Vettel in Korea in qualifying.

no, that is absolutely stupid and insanely crap.

So we know have more sc time, just so people can uncap themselves, the sc is already out for to long.

Also agree with people on the silly race line.
So not only do you defend by going dirty, you have to slow down even more for the corner and have to go the logpng way around. Well I suppose that's one way of increasing overtaking :( between that and DRS, this isn't racing.

the SC unlapping is a good thing.

one time in particular i remember button chasing vettel but because there was about 8 lapped cars infront of button, vettel got a big lead and ruined the chance of some excitement.

should have just scrapped the blue flags and let lapped cars defend as much as they like *aslong as they dont move back to the racing line*

And when the sc should be out for one maybe two laps it'll wreck the race becuase it'll be out for 7 laps and the catching car will no longer have the time needed to catch let alone over take the leader.

probably brough about by hamilton and massa... now they will have no excuses for any coming togethers

I think it's to do about racing..take the long straight at china...they come out of a right hand
bend and normally stay on the left till the next right hand bend.

But when a driver is behind and about to use his kers then the guy in front goes off to the right to defend
then comes back on the racing line at the last min.

This they can no longer do...well that's my take on it...

your right 100% to start with I agree that it was a good idea. but honestly..........its just not racing. what everybody wants too see in f1 is true racing......racing like this.

pure racing, no silly kers, no silly drs, so stupid rules of overtaking crap. just 100% driver vs driver, car vs car. this is want I want to see next year.

This.

People seem to have forgotten that we had this rule a few years back and it was removed for this exact reason. With the new SC speed limit it takes an age for them to all catch up in the first place, and now we will waste a load more time waiting for the lapped cars to go round to the back.

And the lapped cars aren't a disadvantage to the guy behind. If there wasn't a safety car they would still have been there anyway. If anything, moving lapped cars out of the way gives the guy chasing an unfair advantage.

It was a rule that was removed before, and it will be removed again. Nobody wants to watch 3 extra laps behind the safety car just so we can wait for Liuzzi to catch the back of the queue up.

i havent read the whole thread, so apologies if this has been mentioned already, but why cant the safety car just collect up all the drivers as it usually does, but not allowing lapped drivers to unlap themselves, then stagger the release so that they are the same distance between each other as they were before.

this would get rid of the ridiculous advantage for the people that were 30+ seconds behind the guy in front before the restart, and remove the disadvantage of the people behind the leader not having to lap as many cars as the leader did.

the only reason i can see this being difficult is if, just before a safety car, there are several cars very close to each other, because it could be difficult to signal all the cars at the right time. however, it wouldnt be too hard to solve this problem

The FIA have said the new Lotus adjustable ride height system is legal after ferarri asked for clarification. Nice to see its getting silly already!

Not really, the problem with Massa has been that he (not only him) just brainlessly sticks to the racing line even when it will inevitably cause a collision.

I think this rule is more aimed at a Hamilton/Kobayashi in Spa type of situation.
