What would be a good upgrade for me from the R5 1600

Looking at benchmarks the 3600 doesn’t seem like it’s that much of a bump unless really cheap.

Obviously 2nd hand is fine but looking for bang for the buck.

What's your main use ?

If gaming 5700x3d is the gaming price to performance king .

Seems smart to go 5000 of some sort but you'll likely need a BIOS update to do so.

Gaming really. Pairing with a 3060ti.

Will take a look at the 5000 series cpus pricing.

Bios update is no issue as I’m pretty sure that’s just whack in a usb and flash in the uefi. MSI Mortar Max MATX.

It really depends on the type of games you play and the resolution/settings.

But, upgrading to a 5600 from a 3600 when you have a 3060 Ti is not likely to have you go "wow!", no. It is an incremental upgrade.

He's coming from a 1600, so a 5600 will be a decent jump, with an extra 50% single core performance.

Personally the smart money (currently £169) would be on the 5700X3D, which has 8 cores for a bit more future longevity, and the 3D Cache for the fairly large amount of games that benefit from it.
The 5700X3D will probably be good for another 5 Years - the 5600 probably not so much.

cheers guys. Deffo good for thought anyways.

I don’t play any super high demanding games so the 5600 looks like it would be a massive jump and under £100 too which is ideal.

as much as the 5700x3d sounds appealing it’s quite a lot more than I’m looking to pay.

5700x for £125 is another option (that is still 8 cores).

Ultimately thanks to the longevity of the AM4 socket, there are very few bad options when upgrading.

Even the 3600 Mentioned is still a viable upgrade, as long as the price is right (e.g. ~£45 that they've recently gone for on the Members Market)

2nd hand you're probably looking more around the £70 mark, well worth an upgrade assuming your motherboard supports it with a BIOS upgrade.

i'd honestly get the 5700x3d, that'll be the last CPU upgrade you need to do for the AM4 platform
have a look around google for the best prices :)

the 5700x3d will be fine for anything up to the 7900GRE/4070 super (and possibly 7900XT/4080 super) level of GPU grunt

you can then skip AM5 in its entirety and the next upgrade for you, would be AM6 or whatever the intel equivalent is when the time comes in 2028/29
(assuming that no parts fail beforehand)

Looking around I can get the 5700x3d for £138 (from overseas) and looking at the bay I can get £30 for my 1600AF.

Anyone bought the one from overseas before? They all good?

Pick a seller with good reviews on the item.
Bear in mind import duty above £135 (?)
