Looks like i'm changing my system because i've come to the conclusion my Motherboard is broken so i'm wondering if i should upgrade the CPU etc at the same time.. Old thread

Processor:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4700 @ 2.60GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.6GHz
Memory:
3070MB RAM
Hard Drive:
629 GB
Video Card:
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250
PSU:
750w

So my motherboard is broken so i need to buy a new one so should i just buy one for my current CPU or should i buy a new CPU to go with my new motherboard. I'm also looking for a decent case to go with this and i may need a new PSU with longer adapter cables if the PSU you is positioned at the bottom of the case.

Things I'm looking to buy:

- Motherboard (Must)
- Case (Must)
- Ram (Optional)
- CPU (Optional)
- PSU (Optional)

Ammount of money i have to spend is roughly £350 maybe low end £400 but i'd prefer it if i didn't have to spend that much :). I use my system mainly for playing games etc.

Post some compoments that you think would be a good upgrade please, and i don't mind switching to AMD if i buy a new CPU.

Yeah, i know someone who will buy my CPU for £65 if thats good or not and i could sell my GFX card to convert to ATI aswell i suppose.

I've got my options open at the moment anything is posible :).

Anymore combo's anyone would like to suggest?

I would go with a better PSU TBH.

Anyway I would have a look at the following build:

Phenom II X4 955BE ~ £136

Asus M4A785TD-V Evo ~ £75

OCZ Gold Low Voltage 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit ~ £92

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-180-OC&tool=3

Zalman Z7 Plus ~ £43

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-033-ZA

OCZ ModXStream Pro 500w ~ £57

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-037-OC&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=

If you can afford to get a better PSU it would a good decision but the OCZ unit should do the job.

OR

Corsair VX 450W ~ £58

I would get this if the graphics card only needs one PCI-E power connector. It is a Seasonic made unit.

The total comes to just over £400 excluding delivery.

The other option is to get a new motherboard for your E4700 and try overclocking this a bit.

Getting a Crossfire capable motherboard with a CX400W is a false economy. If you are getting a Crossfire capable motherboard at least get a PSU with a pair of PCI-E power connectors.
