I personally wouldn't recommend two PCS cards unless you can get a really big gap between them.

+1 on their own they are great cards, but side by side in the same case? no, they are too fat, something a bit slimier, like the Tri-X?

Hmm I can get Tri-x's for £550, shame I'd lose the free ram :p

Its a big case so plenty of room in it, its just a shame the motherboard is not that long, one with 4 16x PCIe slots so you could put one in slot 1 and the other in slot 4... i think they would have enough room to breath.

That'd be x79 though right?

Is the MSI 290 decent? just thinking it'd fit the colour scheme

The MSI's are fine ^^^ they had fan troble in the past but i think that has now been sorted.

X97 here with 4. though while its states x16 it says its running at x4? i don't get that, its either 16x or its not?

Also has free RAM...

We need Matt to see how Slot 4 works with the 290's

Yeah I don't get that myself, but still nice its a Gigabyte board never had 1 fail me.

Good to know about MSI cards, might pick 2 of them up if its better then going 2 PCS+

Doesn't XDMA suffer performance loss when running through lower end PCI-E lanes? Pairing 16x with a 4x lane for CF.

You can get 4 16x lanes on Z97, just make sure you're paying for a PLX enabled board. Otherwise ^^ as above, bottom lanes will be running 4x and possibly 2.0.

Though, to be fair...not really looked into the benefits of running decent lane sizes for CF.

Wired for 4x.
16x is the size, and required for a GPU. Only has connections for 4x, so limited to 4x bandwidth.

That board is also decent for CF as it's 1st and 3rd 16x slots for optimum CF/SLI.

My lanes are all X16 or X8 bug. I wouldn't recommend x4 pci-e2.0 on XDMA, but x4 pci-e 3 will be fine.

Thanks Matt, so the third PCIe on that MOBO should be ok?

@ Thefogo, is the third PCIe enough room for the PCS+ do you think?

The 3rd 16x slot on that board is wired for 8x, so CF will run 8x/8x in 3.0...so yes, would be fine.

As for spacing, how much does he need? He'd have 1 slots gap between the bottom of the first card to the top of his second card (if running 3 slot cooler, the PCS) He's also running it in a decent case for air cooling. Should be good to go.

Now it's whether orange will work in his colour scheme

Ok, some options for you :)

Orange should work, I think Bitfenix sells orange alchemy cables.

Also thanks for the help up to now guys, so glad I never just put a order in otherwise would've probably been returning stuff ha
