It's because they're small speakers. Small speakers are inefficient.
Your speakers require 2x the power of my huge floorstanders , which have three 8" drivers, one 6" , one 1" treble driver.

You asked a question I replied back. Say if yours have 86db sensitivity mine are 91db for 1w, every 3w difference needs twice the amplifier power.
I have the following kit and it really great for what is likely a similar size room to yours... although I have my setup in a landscape layout as opposed to your narrower portrait layout.

Not sure how flexible your budget is, but with this setup the only thing I will upgrade is the AV receiver at some point. The rest is awesome.
