Upgrading to 20"

I imagine the gap between stock brakes and those wheels would be larger though, I guess the owner saw this and decided to get gap filling upgrades :p

Possible, but below are what is on at the moment and the brakes/calipers don't look bad at all. I do see how the Brembos look better though, but as I will not be tracking the M5 I have no need... yet ;)

How would upgrading from 19" to 20" affect the performance/grip/ride of a car?

I was browsing M5board and saw this:

They look quite nice, I think I prefer them to my 19" Double-spoke style 167M although I'm no where near deciding to change at the moment, just flirting with the idea.

Anyway back to the question, are there gains from upping the size or is it a hindrance?

To me 19's are more than adequate in the looks department and encase the large brakes sufficiently, so without the need to upgrade to even larger brakes I was wondering if there were other benefits to a large wheel?
you will be losing 1" of tyre suspension so the ride will be a little bumpy and if you like traffic light grand prex the rears will tend to spin sooner then with 19"s, benefits are less side wall flex when hard cornering, more feel to the steering, looks good especially when lowered and fitted with stretched tyres with excessive negative camber:cool:

Wouldnt it have other knock on effects like faster wear on the wheel bearings, lower arms and track rod ends?

It sure did when I went to a silly size wheel on my old escort, but the offset was wrong and I was on spacers so I guess that wouldn't have helped.
wrong offset and spacers put a bending load on the hub which the bearing is not designed for

I "quite" like the look of the wheels in the 1st post.
The Double-Spoke 167M's are minging IMHO (but as has been said marmite)

However I am an absolute sucker for OEM. I don't know why but I am always of the opinion that fords should be fitted with ford alloys (not strictly from that model) vauxhalls with vauxhall wheels etc etc.

To me aftermarket alloys just make cars look cheap and chavved. (Says the chap who has just bought some custom CNC'd split rims for his mini)

I still think these are the best wheels on the E60 M5
