Surely the NSA have these information anyway.
The birth of fascism right there.
If "these people" have nothing to hide they will apply for a visa. It's a complete non issue.
ROFL how to jump you related rubbish. The birth of fascism right there.
I don't even have a social media account of any kind, I'm not daft enough to put my personal life on the internet.
Guess that means I'm not allowed a holiday in the states, no big loss there
Go on Mr tin foil for the sake of discussion why not. I'd give them everything in a heartbeat, my personal data means nothing but to me.Such a dumb statement.
I have nothing to hide which I imagine is true for 99% of the population.
A New York Times report claims to have the State Department's list of tracked sites, which are not listed in its proposal. American sites include Facebook, Flickr, Google+, Instagram, LinkedIn, Myspace, Pinterest, Reddit, Tumblr, Twitter, Vine and YouTube. Foreign entries include China's Douban, QQ, Sina Weibo, Tencent Weibo, and Youku; Russia's social network VK; Belgium's Twoo; and Latvia's Ask.fm.

Shhhh, you’ll upset those already on their high horseIsn't this forum a form of social media ?
Pretty sure we are already there in the UK.Yeah.... only thing they ever get is this especially prepared social account that I made a long time ago.
But welcome to 1984.
Or maybe the attitude should be if you want to go to another country where you have to ask for permission to enter, you should follow their rules? If you don't want to follow their rules for whatever reason then don't go, simple.Your attitude there sets a dangerous precedent. The attitude should be that people should be able to do what they like in their spare time with privacy. What they do inside their house / bedroom / online should have nothing to do with the establishment or their employer. Sure, bomb making is different, but it's where you cross the line. Snooping on everyone's Facebook, smart TV cameras / web cams ("Telescreens") and on everyone's phones because a couple of people have made bombs smacks of 1984. Even then, you can't be too sure who set off the bombs. False flag etc.
If everyone started thinking like that, we'd have no privacy whatsoever.
No.Isn't this forum a form of social media ?
I’ve always said if you have nothing to hide then there’s no problem with handing accounts over.
People say it like it’s a privacy thing, which it is but “Got nothing to hide - no problem” scenario.
How would a person go about compiling his/her social media information over that many years?
No.
I think you can clearly distinguish between social media and a classic forum. Forums have been around since 90s, people pick a pseudonym and have discussions of particular topics or pressing issues.
Social media is different. It necessitates a deep rooted connection to your actual life, real names, real places, real psychosocial data, real big data mining, etc. Social media thrives on people's personal data, not just their ideas or discussions as in a discussion forum.
Social media profiles.Bank balances, transactions, wire taps, text logs, emails, browsing history, online purchases, sexual preferences, previous partners, cameras in the home... cavity searches.
Where do you draw the line?
