use of the word "partner"

I know that girlfriend/boyfriend sounds ridiculous when you are in your 40s/50s, but "partner" just sounds like you're a gay.

There must be a better word to use surely?
 
When someone says 'parnter' it does indeed sound gay.

I think it comes down to people think they sound silly saying boyfriend or girlfriend when they are in their 30s or 40s.
However, getting married means the bitch gets half the house you worked hard for, so staying unmarried is the way forward :).

Isn't it that if you are together for over 6 months it's practically the same? Idk though, it might be a good idea to upgrade to a newer model when it reaches that point.

Indeed. One with fewer previous owners, better bodywork and a few years newer ;).

I am 23 and seeing a 35 year old. In 20 years time, I can do exactly the same thing!!
 
It's the politically correct thing to say.

For example, if somebody asks you your status for something official, or whatever... asking whether you have a 'partner' doesn't define you as being gay/straight/bi/whatever.

If somebody was overly camp and you asked them if they had a boyfriend, they would probably be offended if they were actually straight.

I like your style. Tbh it would be harder for me to marry a non professional. Imo I dislike the way some people consider motherhood as a profession. It's not, we really need more mothers working in decent careers and kids in nurseries. I think the government when capable should subsidize child care.

If only one parent worked then there would be no shortage of jobs. Not bothered who it is who works and who stays at home but for most 'couples' the man earns more so would make sense for him to be the 'bread winner'.

It would be hard to for to marry a non-professional what?

Oh and you think that more women should be working? Sure because babies and small children benefit from both parents working and being passed from child minder to child minder. The act of raising a child well is more important than your career.

Oh and the only reason we have this bizarre scenario where both parents work is because of the cost of housing and general costs of living. Personally I feel the older methods of parenting when one partner (usually the woman) stayed at home and raised the child was a much better arrangement than today's main option.

I think mortgages are the reason.

My parents (both around 50) tell me that when they were in their early 20s anyone could get a house of some sort, no matter what job you had.

You will find someone moving into their first home will have a substantially better job than the neighbours who moved in 20 years ago due to the huge house price increase. As a graduate I was offered 25.5k and no house (aside from those on a council estate) could be had for under 4 times the salary.

Why does it have to be multiple child minders? I see no harm in Child care at all, in fact I would say it can be of great benefit as it allow kids to interact with other children rather than just interacting with one person.
Yes I did say that I would prefer to marry a women with a decent job, it's just better financial security for the future and your children.

Ever dealt with child minders? Because keeping one for any reasonable length of time is far from easy.

I'd rather marry a woman who was a good mother. I'll take care of the financial future of the family as it is my job as the man of the house. Funnily enough that's what I did and it worked out (actually still is) quite well.

I may be a little old fashioned for people on here though. :p

On topic I don't use the word partner. My wife was my girlfriend before she became the wife.
