Useful Freeware Utilities

Cheers for the thread, very useful for reminding me of software I need.

big shout out to sumatra pdf. Does PDF's much better than bloated adobe reader and it also does all the comic book formats.

For Blu-ray playback, I'd also mention Arcsoft, Total Media Theatre.

VLC just doesn't work unless you can patch it, and even than it's 50/50 if it'll play a particular Blu-Ray (with newer ones it's more like 10% chance to work).

If you're testing or benchmarking something like the speed of your hard drive, sometimes you need files of a certain size or format. If you don't have the desired file on your hard drive, FileFiller can create a dummy in a jiffy.P

The no-install portable app asks you to choose a destination for the file, where you can input any file format extension you want. You can choose from three data-fill types: Null, ASCII Character and Random data. Finally, set the file size in bytes, KB, MB or GB. You'll get your file in no time.

Hi jbloggs. You OK? Was going to email you when I made that post to say happy new year. :D

I'm very well thanks. Looks like your last post in this thread before this one was March 4th 2013!! Slacker!:p

Hi Marc, yes, I'm good thanks, and a happy new year to you as well...

Although I don't often post in the thread (a real slacker I am!), I do periodically keep an eye on it to see if there are any more freeware recommendations which I then duly add...

I like Clipper on Android and am looking for something similar for Windows as I've often wondered about how useful it would be being able to log clipboard items whether they're text or images etc.

Thoughts?

Hrm, I'm going through that phase "I want more apps but have no idea what to install"

My current app list is per as follows:

Adobe CS6 Master Collection
CCleaner
Speccy
Malwarebytes
Foobar
VLC
KeePass 2
FileZilla
Skype
Kindle
Steam
Sublime Text 2 (PUT THIS IN THE TEXT EDITOR SECTION - Hands down the best one)
Chrome
Utorrent
Action! (Video recording software like FRAPS, but better)
Vegas Pro
7-Zip
iCloud for Windows
WinDirStat
MS Office
Viber for Desktop

Anyone suggest any more decent 'MUST HAVE' ones? :)

not sure this is the place for it but anyone know of an extension for chrome that spellchecks? i'm shocked chrome doesn't do this as standard. i tried ginger but it causes issues with the hover fweature and isn't free so would like to get rid asap
