Using the word 'gay' as a slur

When did the term 'Gay' start being used in this way (meaning something 'naff') ?
It seems to be quite a recent thing - the term wasn't even being used for homosexuals when I was at school, and now it's been changed again for use in this other way - doubtless in another five years time it'll be used for something else, or maybe replaced with another word...

Where do you draw the line then? Do you allow anything aslong as it's in context of a joke?

personally; yes I do. Other people dont. But i feel these people are being a bit over sensitive.

However, if someone were to stop and say "hey, could you cut that out thats offensive to me" or similar. Then i would gladly apologise and stop it. I also like to keep a high level of tact when im in a social context.

im a nice guy really :)

My thoughts are people like you need to get a life...

What do you do? Sit around all day thinking of things to moan about and just generally try to make issues where there are none?

PC crew... worse than knife weilding, chavy thugs...

OP get lost you sad act

of course I dont lol. Im not racist or prejudiced (sp?).

I always make "offensive" jokes in jest or poke fun at stereotypes.

Me and my mates (some of which are chinese) make cracks at each other all the time. Call each other chinks and crackas etc. but none of us actually find it offensive.

The irony on this forum is fantastic, people are up in arms about people not liking them saying gay or using it as an insult, yet they'll happily star out their swearies, of which the levels of offensiveness are only perpetuated by peoples unwillingness to say them, in contrast to something like using gay as an insult, which has real and deep negative conotations. If I was a parent i'd be more worried about my children picking up this psuedo homophobia talk than a couple of swear words.

I star out the F bomb because I don't want to get banned. I don't star out gay because I won't get banned for it. It's pretty simple to be honest. I really do think people should stop being so offended so easily too. Take it on the chin!

Fag! :p

Its all about context.

You walk up to a Gayer and shout oi you gay **** and go for him just because he likes abit of bum .. that's homophobic. But if your on the phone to a mate who's late for the pub and you say " hurry up ya gret gay " Then it obviously means something different.

As for drawing the line its down to common sense ... you wouldn't phone the police if your neighbor had a knife!!! But he was in the kitchen cutting the vegetables but equally you would if he was chasing a gay man down the street with the knife.

LoLz!!!111

So you don't think having to star out your swearies is a violation of your human rights? Shocking. The day I can't say the f-word anymore is the day I don't want to endure!
