Using the word 'gay' as a slur

I find it amazing that any content like this is allowed on these forums bearing in mind it is a marketing tool for a business.

That's not what I said, winrar. You can be offended by something and not tell somebody about it, i'm pretty sure that's a possibility.

that is of course possible,

unless THEY come out (pun sorry) and say "we are offended by this" then no one should have to change their use of the word.

YOU cant speak for THEM.

*Welcome to OCUK forums!

*Aslong as your not a gay.

stop taking offense to this!! you are not gay!! and you cannot decide that they find it offense if they havnt stated otherwise!!

no one on here is saying they are homophobic. we are discussing the connotations of a word and whether or not other people find it offensive or not.

For starters, i'm not getting offended, it's just terribly easy to spot the deep flaws in what nearly everyone has posted.

And once again, you miss the point entirely, first off, people who aren't gay can also be offended by homophobia, just as people who aren't black can be offended by racism aimed at them. I don't see why it seems beyond the realm of possibility to you. Secondly, the way in which people have outrightly said we should adopt their own made up definitions of the word instead of the dictionaries, is quite worrying.

How about this one? I deem all swear words to mean fluffly bunnies, I can now say it freely and anyone who gets offended is a big jessie!

That is just like black people who say ****** though really, I mean it is ok as long as you are in the "group" so to speak.

No, it's really not.

Me saying 'my car's being gay' is so far removed from me saying 'my car's being a homosexual and having sex with other cars of the same gender' that using 'gay' as a negative word has no connection with actual homosexuality.

It's just a word that people pick up when they're about nine, and continue to use, even if in the meantime they discover they're a screaming great bento.

OP , the only thing making it an insult to you is your personal opinion that being gay is bad

if everyone in the world loved gays then it wouldnt be insulting

But you cant take offense to something that the group you are defending dosnt either. I myself am hugely offended by racism and prejudice. But i look at everything in context. If someone says gay in a derogatary way ill step in, but if they use in a non derogatory way then theres nothing offensive about that.

Secondly, language and definitions of words evolve and are different in different societies. There is no absolute when it comes to language and its uses. Thats why EVERYTHING should be looked at in context.

Where do you draw the line then? Do you allow anything aslong as it's in context of a joke?
