Currently with the mobile provider Three and jetting off to Türkiye in 29 days for a week. Unfortunately for me my allowances with Three don't cover roaming in Türkiye and I need another plan to cover me while on holiday... any advice?

Pretty sure i have used mine in Turkey before by the way. Usually Turkcell you end up on.

Three allowances don't cover it now however, I think many other providers don't either from what I've searched unless you go with a Vodafone Xtra Global plan. Did think about getting a local SIM but will have a search around for an eSIM for data first.
Lebara do a decent value roaming add on for £25 with 2GB of data for 2 weeks, for pretty much everywhere in the world. It won't be as cheap as a local sim but saves faffing about as you can just add it on the app.
They also happen to be the best value network in the UK at the moment and using Vodafone so have good coverage

I’m just back from US, similar with 3, put me on a new contract a couple of years ago that removed all the free roaming.
I used an eSIM from Airalo, worked a treat, they also cover Turkey, eg 5GB is $12 for 30days. This is data only.

eSIM is the way to go.
Holafly for unlimited. Airalo for capped. Just go for which ever one you need.
You’ll be able to keep and use your uk number as well.

For only a week I’d probably just stump the cost with 3.
I’m sure with Vodafone and EE they have an add on of around £5 per day. That’s only £35 and so I think I’d just live with it.

can you use voip for voice - I use it and it's easy for outgoing calls, for incoming, tougher, guess you'd have to rent a number and forward regular calls.
Don't see why that shouldn't work, for normal calls and text I still just use my normal 3 SIM abroad.

I found this yesterday and will likely settle for an eSIM with unlimited data. 7 days is all I need and Holafly appears to have great Trustpilot reviews plus I got a discount code reducing the cost to £22.

That's what is stopping me from moving provider.
I deliberately renewed my contract with EE in June 2021 so I could keep the roaming being tied to my allowance (also got more data, 5G and lowered my monthly payment).... I'd imagine they will remove it as some point but, for now at least, I can use my phone abroad as if I was still in the UK.
There's still a chance, EE i've renewed a few times and just keep adding the same add on. It's worked with me living here in Spain too since October, whereas my wife has Vodafone and they've said she's abused the fair use policy and roaming is no longer included.

Just remember to turn off auto data switching and set data to eSIM. Do that either on the plane or just after you landed. This is so just in case if the signal drops it goes to home sim which then will rack up a ton of data charges.
calls - so holafly seems to have 60minutes of calls now included to other european countries, on the local number they give you,

Turn of data roaming on the UK too! Can’t risk it!
That could be really handy for if you need to phone a local taxi/hotel. Hopefully the extend it globally as that would really be a game changer.
