UT3

It really was released in an unfinished state. The demo was very active and people put up with the issues through that with the hope they would be fixed for the full release, unfortunately they wern't and many didn't get fixed for a long time, such as the GUI. Even to this day the enforcer is ridiculously overpowered for a starting weapon.

Many people also complained of it being too much of a strain on their systems.

I think Midway should take a lot of the blame for this as they were about to go bust and appear to have forced the game to be released. I remember Epic talking about wanting to take the time to get it right not too long before.

For online games the first month is critical and I think that if it had been released at the state it is now it would have enjoyed more success.

Hoping that a UT4 does one day see the light of day.

agreed had a few games last night seemed pretty good. owed it for ages but never gave it much thought (bloody steam sales) was fanatical about quake and ut for a number of years a while back. tried that warsow and quite enjoyed that but the skill set of those online is pretty daunting as I dont get much time to hone my skills and I co approaching 40! lol

I was wondering if the high requirement was part of the problem on release as it is quite good looking game even for todays standards.

I could be wrong but I think the 8800gtx was the top card of the day on its release. Remember upgrading to a 9900gx2 at some point during UT3's lifetime anyway.

I'd be up for a game though if enough people here wanted to and someone has a server

I'm pretty sure this game was released at the same time as Modern Warfare and another game, I remember thinking at the time that we were spoilt for choice as we now have a trinity of awesome fps games out at the same time.

The biggest UT community map site (Nalicity) went down prior to the game's launch and never came back online, it was a huge blow to the modding community, and thus, mods and maps for UT3 were few and far between.

I'd disagree on the modding community lacking due to Nalicity. It was definitely there (I worked on Jailbreak)

There was always going to be less than there was for UT2004 due to the huge step up in time needed to make anything look on par with the rest of the game.
In UT99 you could build a nice looking map in a day, UT2004 maybe a week, UT3? Months!

The same applied to modelling new vehicles and characters. Making a working vehicle for it at Uni was damn good fun though!

When my psu and cooler get back from corsair, we should get a group of UT3 players together and have a blast!! im sure theres still plenty of people that would play it. Cmonnn corsair lol

too many games out now days compared to when the great. ut and quake's were released I think that's half the problem to the poor communities built up around the new games

I used to love it when I played the old games and you would get to know most people in the community, out of my own online contact list I rarely get to speak to anyone else.
Probably because I don't play online as much as I used to.

Problem with UT3 is the only decent mode is warfare and nothing else is really worth playing.

It doesn't "feel right" as a deathmatch game, playing in enclosed maps just doesn't have the feel of the classic fps games.

VCTF is inhabited by nerds who call you a noob for using certain weapons, which is stupid - I'm just going to use the weapons the game gives me.

The Multiplay 32p warfare server is where I play and the server I'd reccomend, its got titan and full rotation of all official maps.

I really loved it when it came out and did quite a lot of MP and Co-Op with my brother. In hindsight, it wasn't as good as UT2004 or UT99. Just not quite as fluid as a twitch FPS, and the lack of a community meant it died quite quickly.
Would love a blast if we set up an OCUK UT3 night. :)

Because its nowhere near as good as UT GOTY was.

This

Epic had something that could had remained as popular as 1.6/css to this day had they supported it better... they more bothered about flogging game engines

2004 / ut3 while decent dont hold a candle to original

Yeh think you are probably right then. Was the same for me with UT2004 tbh. There was just no other games that interested me at the time.
Whilst UT3 was out around the same time as COD4, Crysis and Stalker iirc!

There is too many games these days, too much choice, it just wears me out trying to work out a game to get.

Can't all these developers pool their resources into releasing games less often, but more EPIC!?

I've always thought the failure of this game was more a result of the demise of gamer's desire for games like this. Everyone wants semi-realistic shooters like CoD or Battlefield now-a-days!

Anyone played Shootmania? I remember seeing a video months ago and thinking it would be a goos stopgap UT/Quake like game
