v70 advice

Burnsy, Have you had any experience with iPod integration? Mine has the hu-803 fitted if that makes any sense to you, or anyone else for that matter.
Cheers

You have a couple of options for iPod integration, Volvo do their own iPod cable, but there are other methods;

USA Spec PA-11
IMIV
Grom Audio

Are a few to search for.

I have an IMIV in my S60, find it has excellent sound quality, and allows you to use the steering controls etc.

I've got this on my wishlist for my birthday. It's the best option I've found. Not that cheap though.

Crap: looks like they're not selling the iMIV right now as they're trying to get approved by Apple :(

The imiv seems popular, I have a similar unit that pretends to be a cd changer, and has a 3.5mm stereo jack, so I can use my mp3 player or friends phones or whatever.

Iirc it was about 80 quid, which sounds a lot but the standard head units is pretty good, so replacing the head unit wou mean losing or severely complicating standard features like steering controls etc.

I got mine mail order from Canada of all places. Check out some Volvo forums for ideas, Volvoforums.org.UK seems pretty good, plenty of other tips and advice too.

Edit: getting tje head unit out and then finding a place to stuff the little box in is an absolute whore or a job, make sure to read a guide before you do a DIY fit!

Having picked up my D5 54 S80 on Sunday I can fully vouch for the superb quality however looking into the pitfalls of ownership on volvoforums and t5d5, if I didn't have the car thrust on me so cheap I don't think I'd have any Volvo out of choice

What unit do you have?

Does anyone know the rough cost of the volvo supplied option and does it let you use the steering wheel controls? Also does it charge your ipod? This is important to me.

I have come accross Imiv already and will investigate that further too.

Thanks for the ideas chaps.

If memory serves, its called a 'something' mivII, its buried somewhere behind the dash now, so I cant check it, but I have some pics I cam show when I get home if you want to see, its a bit cheaper than the ipod option if you have an mp3 player.

That's a fairly neat way of doing it! I want an system that charges it and shows some sort of info on the screen so it's not for me I don't think.

Heres a pic of mine, you can hide the unit behind the dash with some careful maneuvering and then have a headphone extention lead to the cabin. It basically gives you a normal rca/stereo input.

I've driven a few of these, and found the TV to be at a really odd angle? Is it useful for day-day use? I only ever drove lots of them short distances without needing to use the nav function.
