Valkyria Chronicles

It's realtime, but with limited movement. Basically you have a certain amount of run time, which differs from unit type to unit type, each time you move, you use some of said movement time, you can stop and fire whenever you want, but enemies will attack you whilst moving if they can see you and are close enough.

Its not block based. There so many ATB schemes its easiest to just descibe it.

Turned-based but with Real-time movement via 3rd person.

Each character which is based on a certain class type has time-limited movement with a bar that decreases everytime you move only, stand still and it stops, so it adds to the tactical and strategy play of things and knowing which character to pick to waste a turn. When you aim to shoot, you have unlimited time on that, but you will also be very vunerable to any enemy in sight.

And "ATB" is exclusive to Final Fantasy only. They invented it, they patented it, it's their own thing. Other JRPG's or tactical strategy games tend to be more traditional or a hybrid mechanic.

Looks like all the prices for the extra DLC has been reduced until the 29th April.

Still best JRPG of this generation (available in the UK at least, i haven't played Demon's Souls yet) imo, i thought Lost Odyssey or FFXIII might trounce it but after finishing both i still feel Valkyria still has the edge.

Is it Disgaea style or is it like a proper RPG aka Final Fantasy/Suikoden etc?

Tacticial RPG and neither. This is turn-based but with real-time 3D 3rd person.

Unless it is disabled on your computer, there are videos right in the first post that show some gameplay.

My copy arrived yesterday, been playing quite a bit. Fantastic little game, the story and attention to detail is brilliant. I've barely scraped the surface too, haven't got to the barracks or anything yet!
Seriously impressed.

Well, after borrowing Lost Odyssey off a work mate, I got to Disk 4 only to find that it was scratched:(. But i'm back on the JRPG buzz and my copy of this arrived today.

I've heard good things about it so I can't wait to play it.

When i played Lost Odyssey, I didn't read the hints or maunual, and didn't realise my characters could learn the spells from the rings until about half way through:eek:.

Are there any tips that I could use?

HMV are doing this for £15 in-store - picked it up when I was put on the Amazon backorder list for their offer...

ps3ud0

Just picked this up second hand on the high street for 98p!

Can't wait to get started on it, and has to be worth a go at that price.
