*** Valve Steam Machine ***

People questioned the price during the announcement and here we are. The controller has sold out.
Hardly surprising, if there's one group of gamers who have shown unwavering determination to bend over and take whatever price is set for the latest new shiny thing they probably don't even need, it's PC gamers.

Sorry I was completely incorrect about Currys and misread lol.

On the steam controller, I mean it's very unique isn't it. Is it expensive compared to elite controllers etc?

Compared to elite, no it’s cheaper but it’s more than a standard first party console controller.

There is an argument the PS5 controller is also up there in its uniqueness and quality and that’s materially cheaper.

It's not like pc gamers are the only group that has a portion going "new shiny, must have".

Playstation gamers bend over for the edge controller (£180) and then bend over again for replaceable sticks at £20 for one, because Sony's fix for drift is to sell you the same thing over and over instead of using TMR sticks to eliminate the main cause of drift.

Wonder what the take up is on the Edge controller. Pretty niche I’d expect. I certainly wouldn’t buy one. Happy with the standard one which is still a great controller.

I have the Edge. Bought it for CoD and FPS games. Probably wouldn't buy it again but it works well so I've kept it.

I have two Xbox Elite Series 2 Controllers, got them a few years back. Only got my Edge controller over Christmas because it was on sale.

Can someone else tell me a pad that has dual touchpads and allows as much customisation as the steam controller for around the same price? Oh it will also need TMR and haptic feedback at a minimum, plus four back buttons.

Anyone? Guess it’s not ‘overpriced’ then.

This cant be used on consoles even with a dongle, right? Got my G7 Pro Wuchang for £60 and its been quality so far and is usable on the xbox too, which is a perk

If it's a controller that fits all/most of your requirements then it's a good price.

If it isn't, then don't buy it?

I have the cyclone 2 and the vader 4 pro (and the MS elite 1 and 2, both with the usual input problems that eventually plague those devices) - literally no need for me to get this controller - I don't even use the track pads on the Deck and I never used the old Steam controller when I had that.

I'm so behind with all this. I'm holding off buying a console because of the steam machine, are we any closer to a release date?

Short answer; no.

There are rumours of Valve receiving inventory though; Valve has started receiving a lot of "game console" shipments to their US distribution warehouse, per customs data (Steam Machine inbound) - Resetera Forum. Similar rumours/news of Valve receiving controller inventory happened a few weeks ahead of that launch. So if similar timelines prevail then we should hear about the Steam Machine soon.

Steam Controller: Reservations open May 8th
How to reserve yours, and what we're doing to mitigate the challenges from earlier in the week

Steam Controller launched on May 4th, and while we were happy to see such a high level of interest, the experience for a lot of you trying to buy it was incredibly frustrating. We plan to continue replenishing stock as we get more in, but in the meantime wanted to share changes we're making to improve the purchase experience and to limit reseller activity:

Beginning May 8th at 10 am Pacific, we're opening a reservation queue for Steam Controller. Once you reserve, your place in line will be saved. When we go back in stock, order emails will be sent in the same order that reservations were made.

Here are the details on how we're hoping to improve the experience overall while also taking steps to limit reseller activity:

Reservation details:

  • Reservations will be limited to one Steam Controller per user.
  • Once you receive an order email, you have three days (72 hours) to make your purchase on Steam.
  • For now, customers who have already purchased a Steam Controller are not yet eligible to reserve another Steam Controller.
Additionally:

  • Your account must be in good standing on Steam
  • You must have made a purchase on Steam prior to April 27, 2026
Replenishment of inventory will vary from region to region. We will start fulfilling reservations next week in the US / Canada, and UK / EU / AU in the following weeks.
