Vanguard Beta (Fileplanet)

What they've done with the bards is pretty ground breaking for a MMO. The fact you actually sort of build your own songs rather than bards just casting a spell and calling it a song is really interesting.

Yes its very original howver as u said its a bard SONG not magic and should not be accounted towards mana usage, if they do want to limit it then y not have how many can be cast within rests?

The thing most people seem to like best is the fellowship, you and 5 other friends can create a fellowship and you share exp no matter who's online or offline.

We're sorry, the Vanguard: Saga of Heroes beta program is restricted to U.S. residents only. We appreciate your interest in the program.
whats that all about ?

Restricted Access
U.S. Residents Only , are they are having a lought?

Personally i'm finding the required specs a bit disspointing, i have a 3500+, 1GB Ram and a 6600GT and the game is virtually unaplayable on minimum settings.

Either the beta needs a lot of work or they've made it very complex, if they make it impossible for players with mid-range specs to play then they'll not get onto a good start.

Yeah, it is running a bit poor at the minute, but I've already noticed some improvements from Friday when I first got onto the Beta through till today where my FPS have almost doubled :)

I think that there are plenty of bugs and performance issues, but the scope of the game is amazing, there is so much landmass to travel across and so far the core mechanics of the game seem fun. I've attached a few pics incase anyone is interested, these are running at 1920x1200, 4xAF, High Quality.

You're really making me jealous now :p. Hoping Eurogamer starts giving out beta keys soon.

Hopefully it will run ok on medium with my spec:

3500+
1gig
6800 ultra 256mb.

Can't believe what an idiot I am.

Just saw this thread so had a gander at the Sigil forums. Couldn't remember if I'd signed up before so tried my regular login and it worked.

Realised I'd signed up with an old e-mail account that I don't use anymore and when I checked it...

I've had a beta invite sitting in there since 13th October!!

Guess I'd better give it a try now then :D

Anybody know where I can get the Client for the game? Been looking around but can't seem to find anywhere apart from fileplanet :(.

There's a link on the sigil forums to a site that checks whether you can run the game, the general idea is that the minimum requirements for Vanguard are the recommended settings for MS Flight Simulator X, i passed every test except the graphics card, and the only reason i failed that was because i have 128 instead of 256 ram, so you should be fine as your machine is identical to mine except the video card.

Although remember that its the minimum requirement not even the recommended, they really are asking for a beast of a machine to run it properly. Added to the fact that the game file hits 20GB makes me think that the programmers have a lot of work to do, Guild Wars only hits 4GB and thats 3 full games so how have they ended up with 20

I think its the amount of scenery, which they big up a bit in the descriptions. I am downloading via the game client having successfully nabed a beta key from eurogamer. That was 8 hrs ago so they will all have gone by now. DnL, all keys went within 2min, and the eurogamer site was having serious problems as the keys were expected!

Just interested in seeing what people think of the game after a weeks worth of playing.

Personally i'm not really enjoying it much, i think the character models feel a bit too much like stick insects, there doesn't seem to be any fluidity in their movements or attacking.

Maybe its just because my graphics card is struggling with it :p but i'm not liking it as much as i hoped, its making me want to go back to mmorpg's but not this one, SW Galaxies EMU doesn't look like it'll be up and running anytime soon, so maybe it'll be back to WoW, unless anyone has any other suggestions :p

Been playing for a while now. Just about to leave work, so will keep this brief :D

The good - gameplay (I'm old school EQ and this is about the closest you can get to that), the stunning scenery, the sky!

The bad - performance, unfinished world, difference in quality of starting locations.

The ugly - characters, mobs, general animation all very, very poor.

To me, the game looks like it has plenty of potential but it is very obvious in an unfinished state with too much to get sorted before the end of Jan. They also need to poke the eyeballs out of the people who were responsible for character design/animation.

Im enjoying it, the game has huge potential but im dissapointed that its gone gold and is available to buy on the 30th, the games no where near finished.

ill probably still end up buying it as theres nothing else around to play and etqw has been pushed back again :/

I've not played it, but as a avid WoW player, Vangard needs to do a lot to grab my attention. I have to say from the screens and videos I've seen, I've been a little underwelmed by it. I'm not saying the GFX look rubbish, but part of the charm of WoW is that it has a visual style...this visual style means it looks stunning without having to pull any tricks out the bag. Vangard just looks a bit messy. The scenery and models just look bland and lacking colour. If you look at all the screenshots, they are all brown, grey with a smidge of green and red. There's not really a visual style, it's trying to look realistic, but failing.

To sum it up, it reminds me of the Morrowind engine from a few years back. Looks good, but dated. For what tis' pushing out the performance should be higher.

As I've said, i've not played it myself so i could be way off the mark. But this is the impression I get from the Videos and Screens.

Comparing this to star wars galaxies, it has the same open sand box world and gameplay. Id say the graphics and density of detail over such a vast expance does look like its come on leaps and bounds. This is the unreal engine and Ive always liked that.

Actually the leveling system so far up to lv 8 has been a series of quests which I guess is slightly better than just grinding missions. Although I took the oppotunity to log back into SWG for free and lvling there is now quest based too.
