VAR & Rule Tweaks - 21/22 Season [2024/25 Update]

Apart from 1 or 2 high profile games how do you know Newcastles opponents wasn’t the one time wasting ^^

Theres a saying. If you meet one ******* in a day, you just met an *******. If you meet 10 ******** in a day then you're probably the *******.

What do you mean? Varane isn't known for time wasting. They aren't talking about the last 10 minutes of a game, they are talking about the time wasting from the first minute. The fact that Newcastle played over 9 minutes less than Man City on average per game last season. Thats a tactic of slowing play down at every possible moment to gain an advantage.

My point was that I find it rich for any footballer to complain about these rules... As if they (as in footballers/teams) didn't do what they do then there would be no need for these rules to be introduced.

Every team is guilty of the gamesmanshi in managing it through disruptive and time consuming antics. We (United) were guilty of it last season in the first half of one game, I forget which. It was annoying as hell.

Thought this was good. Audio of players, ref and VAR. Didn't know where to put it but it is about VAR.

Don't mind it one bit, but do we think footballers can be as disciplined as Cricket/Rugby players whilst going through this process in the PL though? Think they'll need someone on the swear censor beep primed and ready.

But at least gives some in site on the coverage as to what they are up to!

If you showed me that clip with 0 audio I would know exactly what had happened. The issue isn't in knowing their thought process, its the complete inconsistency in decision making.

In 95% of VAR decisions you know what has happened, its just quite often baffling how they got to that decision. Would the above be any better if the ref stuck with his decision despite it being wrong. We would know why he has given the penalty, it would just be a bad decision.

I'm not suggesting that this is a bad thing to do, I just don't think its going to fix any of the issues with VAR.
