Vettel - 4 times WDC in 2013?

Closed Canopy Cockpits :(

I don't know why I disapprove. But I really do. It's just so, much less... 'real' for some reason...

That said, I'm aware that it has to be introduced for safety, especially considering almost all of the accidents in recent times could have been solved by introducing them. That said, do they add more risk from a fire perspective? (as in being trapped inside?)

I think they're supposed to be like a jet canopy that fires off. Though this introduces flying canopies into the danger equation.

It is really down to Red Bull and to a large extent Adrian Newey, if they are not competitive he will struggle like early last season and if they are catastrophically poor (unlikely) he will be about as fast as Schumacher at Mercedes.

I just hope the season is more like this year with the cars not that far apart opposed to the year before when Vettel had a car 0.5-1secs faster than the rest of the field, blitzed qualifying and then drove off into the distance every race.

So in short, unless Newey comes up with something amazingly new and different, I can only see the field getting tighter for 2013.

This has been the mantra since 2009. However, year after year, RBR produce a stonking car.

This year was their weakest year and still, they gave Vettel a car which was able to win 4 races on the trot. Even McLaren couldn't stop Vettel.

I believe that RBR did finish the season off with the fastest car. If you look at Vettel's lap times in the race, he was repeatedly being told that you are the fastest...there is no need to be so fast.

Over the course of the season, I would say McLaren definitely had the fastest car. Their early season form was brilliant. Unfortunately for them, their drivers were not in great form. Their other problem was their reliability.

I strongly believe that if Alonso or Vettel was driving this year's McLaren, they'd have won the title. McLaren produced a great car this year and as Whitmarsh said in the interview before the race, Alonso still beat them (in a significantly slower car).

This I disagree with. Both Jenson and Lewis have been in great form this season and hardly put a foot wrong. Both drivers have been let down by their team more often than them doing something wrong.

If anything, Jenson needs to sort his Saturday performance out, but that's about it from the top of my head.

How many points did RBR / Vettel (and Mark to a lesser extent) benefit from McLaren's (and to a lesser extent Ferrari's) foul ups?

They surely benefited more than most (just a guess mind you)

Or maybe it was just that when RBR had a bad race/ bad quali , McLaren ****** up some how , so that RBR didnt lose pace in the WDC\WCC so drastically?

McLaren won the last two races (with a little help from Hulkenburg admittedly). JB/Hulk had a 45s lead until the 1st safety car

JB had a 20s lead just before the last safety car (although admittedly I think Alonso was catching a little). Was JB pushing, I dont know, but thats at least 1 minute plus lead without considering any other losses during the race.

Lewis may well have ended up even further ahead (impossible to know admittedly)

SV was fast during the race, no disputing that, MW seemingly was relatively slow compared to most of the top 8 although I cant remember if he was suffering technical issues or not.

I would say its hard to be sure that RBR was definitely the fastest. McLaren were not tardy, thats for sure lol

I think its harsh to blame the drivers on a design issue which meant the tyres didnt generate / keep enough heat to work properly in a lot of circumstances (baring JB's annual win in Aus lol).

What a strange thing to say. Almost all of Hamilton's failures were down to the team or the car giving up on him. When he didnt have the car breaking or the team doing stupid things...he won or was on the podium.

Indeed. Short of driving into a HRT at Malaysia, what did the McLaren drivers do wrong?

The team and reliability lost them both championships, not the drivers.

Bahrain >>>>Silverstone included yeah?

(effectively 1/3 of the season - of which he "banged in" 1 decent result)

Bahrain, he beat Jenson
Spain, he beat Jenson despite starting from back lol
Monaco, he beat Jenson
Canada he won
Valencia he was beating Jenson till Pastord
Silverstone he beat Jenson

No point going on is there?

are you being perticularly vacant on purpose!!

Im talking about the performance of the car and the tyre issues. Not whether one driver beat the other by a few seconds or whatever.

A string of 8th places (at best) for McLaren was ****, and the tyre issues / heat generation was discussed at length as the reason for these results.

but no doubt you will change the topic yet again so it suits your own ends

Deary me, he beat Jenson and won a race in the period you said. He took pole in Spain, but yeah poor Jenson and his car problems. 5th in Monaco, as I said still banging in results while Jenson done nothing.

I may be missing the context of this conversation but Jenson got taken out by Heikki in Monaco.
