Today i finally got myself a xbox 360 premium which i said i would get some time ago and so far from what i have seen i am impressed , i like the dashboard layout and connecting to live is very painless and i cant wait to play PG3 but i arnt getting it til next week :( anyway i will probably be using a 17" LG LCD widescreen tv and wanted to know how much better the picture would be if i buy a vga cable for it ??? i did download the need for speed most wanted demo to compare with my pc and to be honest they look very similar and that is only with the standard scart .

When i get sorted out you ocuk 360 users can give me a thrashing on PG3 :D my gametag is MIKEL11 .

mick .

if your monitor supports the higher resolutions like 720 then it should look a lot better(not just sharper, the gfx are more detailed too), i use a vga cable on my 22 inch widescreen TV(its native res is 1280x720)and its superb

You'll definitely see an improvement.

Things will be sharper and much more defined, and since you'll be using your monitors native resolution you will get the best possible image from the screen.

cheers crunchman ;) i wont be buying lots of games for it but what games do you recommend ??? i am getting PG3 next week and i bet forza 2 will be ace when it comes out , is fifa and tiger 2006 any good ??? had a look at your gametag tomb raider might be one to get .

Mick .

If the specs for your screen are correct i'd personally run at 1280 x 768 with the VGA cable. Thats what i run at on my TV.

I found the manuel and this is the spec using the D-SUB

One last question does it matter which cable you buy or are they all the same , microsoft , joytech etc ??? .

Mick .

I've had both official and Joytech. It appeared to me that the MS lead produced slightly better and vivid colours compared to the Joytech. Some people say they see not difference between them, but overall I believe the MS would be the safest option.

Well thanks for your help everyone ;) i cant wait to start playing some games and get a gold membership for some live gaming .

Also worth noting that certain people on this board keep going on about how component is so much better because of the better colours.

This issue has been fixed in the latest Dashboard Update. The difference is amazing and the picture no longer looks washed out.

So if you have the choice, I'd go VGA everytime. It's sharper and now just as colourfull as component.

I'm probably one of those people.

It seems from the comments on here that VGA quality is only improved if you are using the official MS lead. I have the Joytech one, and saw NO difference after the update. (and I'm not trying to be awkward, as I would love to be able to switch to VGA permanantly).

Have been thinking about picking one of these up and after reading this I think I will.

Same, i've been running it through my TV card for ages now, turning on my PC just to play the 360 seems too annoying to not get the VGA cable. :)

Just to counter, I'll chime in and say that I'm using the Joytech lead on my 32" Samsung and I did notice a difference after the update - more colourful dash etc

Bah :(

I was using it on a Samsung TV too. There was genuinely no improvement for me whatsoever. Reset the colours, messed about with them etc. Still horribly washed out.

I will try and get hold of an official MS cable at some point to try that one out.

For people who have used both connections and have seen an improvement, are the colours on VGA supposed to be nearly identical to when using component now, or are they still slightly paler?
