Vibram FiveFingers

I'm not really sure why thats relevant. In order for me to make a significant time investment, not to mention a health investment whilst I was getting used to learning how to run again, they would need to be cheaper. I've already spent 6 months learning a new running style, I'm blown if I'm going to spend that much to do it again.

Running in them comes Naturally and while running in normal shoes your style will just revert back to how you run in them.

Running barefoot or in the fivefingers will Strengthen your muscles in your foot like you wouldnt believe. So its pretty good to get your ankles into shape and help prevent injurys.

BTW look at America to buy them :D

I realise that, but I don't really have time to learn a new running style at present. I've got main board in ~2 months!

you would be fine my mate managed to injure himself numerous times in his run up to main board the pratt but they still let him in :p

WTF is main board?

Its not really learning to run, its more braking in the muscles and getting them used to it :)

I want to start running soon, and I was wondering if I'd be better off going straight to these rather than learning to run in regular shoes. Would there be any downsides in doing this? I have not run since leaving school, so I would be starting pretty much from scratch with regards to technique.

Its a short few day long course involving fitness and other things that you have to pass before you can go on to train as an officer in the forces

Pff you make it sound easy :p.

I've had a pair of KSO's for almost 18 months. They're really amazing. You will find that your running will change, but it should be almost automatic. Just make sure you're not landing with your foot in front of you - it should be almost directly beneath your body. The frequency of steps will increase and the stride length will decrease.

If I could get those for $85 I would, but they're over £100 here. That I can find anyway.

They're awesome. Anyone will notice when informed that how they run barefoot is significantly different to when they have the majority of trainers on their feet. Although you can run with a forefoot strike in trainers (see POSE Method of running) it's much easier to do in minimalist footwear like the Vibrams and requires less concentration.

The only thing I'd say is finding your size is a complete PITA given only a few shops on the UK (nearly all in London?) stock them and they never seem to have all the models/sizes in stock.

Personally I want a pair of Komodo Sports (when they come out) for exercise e.t.c. and either Classics or Smartwool Classics for general round the house wear and as something to wear in the summer.

theres fakes on ebay for £22 delivered, look exactly like the original, in fact i bet they are the exact same with very minor differences.

i have an original pair and have just ordered a fake pair to compare them, if the fakes are the exact same ill order another one.

Let us know how you get on with the fakes could be a good cheap way to test them out before deciding to go for the real thing or not

My colleague owns a pair of these, he swears by them.

I think they look rather strange, but I appreciate the logic behind them.

I don't think I've got the minerals to wear them out the house!

well when i ordered my original pair i went by the sizing off their website and added 1, the pair i got are a snug fit on my left foot, but perfectly fine on my right, they arent too tight, so i ordered the fakes in 1 size up i'll see if they are too loose or not.

all i can say is if you are ordering originals is go for 1 size up from your measurement, this is the general consensus on other forums too. its also what i did but looks like i may be a size 45 on my left foot and a 44 on my right foot (i wear UK 10's with no problem apart from 1 pair of adidas i own where my left foot is too tight, although other adidas i own are fine in a 10).

i have only wore the vibram's once because i only got my originals a couple of weeks back and its been terrible weather here in scotland so i have had to completely stop weightlifting (also hurt a muscle in my shoulder but its fine now), and thats why i bought them to use whilst lifting.

i actually ordered my fakes last week and the supplier is in china so i dont know how long its going to take for them to get here with the weather.

so if you have 1 foot slightly bigger than the other, i mean even so slightly then fitting is a huge problem without a nearby store that stocks them.
