Views on the Saxo VTS

The 306 GTi-6 is infinately a better car - better handling, performance, looks, build quality. Friends of ours have had two brand new saxo's, one special edition "voodoo" and one VTR. The build quality was truly awful on both, little niggling problems all the time.

The other consideration is the little 1.6 in the Saxo is likely to have had the nuts driven off it. True, the 2.0 in the Pug will probably have received similar treatment, but it's a bigger, better power plant and can absorb it better

I like the look of the 306 gti but don't really like the xsara, think it'll be out of the saxo vts or 306 gti-6, will have to look into getting some test drives

Shame really, cos the only thing the Xsara lacks is the looks of the 306.

If you are after the most fun for the least money, it's great. But if you want a drive ornament to stare it, I agree it could be considered a poor choice - against a Phase 3 GTi-6.

Don't buy a phase 1 GTi-6 if you think the Xsara looks bad tho, as they just look like scabby old Peugeots. Becuase they are..

Think I'll try and get a test drive in one next week or for the weekend and see what I think about the pedals and just the car in general.
the 106 iss a saxo they are the same car the pedals will be the same...................

ok ill try and explain,
take one 250ml glass filled with tesco orange juice stick a peugeot lion on it and a 106 badge, here we have a peugeot 106

take another 250ml glass of exactly the same type as the above fill it with tesco orange juice to exactly the same level as above. now stick a citroen badge on it and a saxo badge too. Here we have a citroen saxo

geddit yet ?

ps actually we have glasses with silly badges stuck on them and 500mls of orange juice but nvm trying to make a point!:P
And nerf being on wrong account

Ignore the image, by all accounts they are great fun.

If you want suggestions for alternatives why not look at its bigger brother, the Xsara VTS? The relationship between the Xsara and the 306 is similar to that of the 106/Saxo - so with Xsara you get 170bhp, a great chassis, but a 5 speed box. Oh, and climate control etc.

Get a nice one for £2.5k.
can get a nice one for about 1800 was one on xsara owners club going for that im sure you could knock a bit off too if you wanted :)

yeh but I'm just saying my Peugeot 106 was an L reg, I'm looking at getting an R reg or higher so the pedals may be a bit further apart and I do get that they a 106/saxo and 306/xsara are basically the same car

Personal attack towards saxo owners?

We aren't ALL like that you know!

The Saxo VTS? Decent little motor, as long as you don't mind a fairly cramped cabin. Took one for a test drive a few months back and enjoyed it, not mega fast but swift enough. Handling seemed pretty good, though I couldn't say if it seemed any better than the handling on the VTR.

Should be fairly cheap to run, and insurance isn't too bad, certainly cheaper than insuring a 106 or 306 GTi.

I don't know if this would sway your decision or not but having looked around at small hatchbacks I personally think the Saxo seems very cramped in the back. Not for people but if you had to carry anything with the back seats down.

Other than that it seems like a nice car.

Unfortunately it also has the image that a lot of people don't like but if its unmodified and in a nice colour they can look quite nice.
