Vince's Ebay Repair Thread - (Console Repairs & Mods)

Have you done an RGB mod to an N64 before? Curious to know if the wavebird pad works as well, they're quite a pain to get hold of!

I have indeed my personal one has all kinds of mods now.. I used the hispido rgb mod on my personal one.. does good, although there is now a 720p hdmi mod I saw for it so mine might end up with that.

The wavebird I haven't yet looked at its sort of in my pile of junk ready for when I get time.

Bought this z1 extreme ally with no power and sd card issues...

All in a days work chaps.. we now have power and the sd works... winning... anyone want a cheap rog lol

Where did you get the replacement shell from Vince? My old one is battered!

I got it all on aliexpress I found a store that did all the internal plastics and another that done the shell... fitment can be really bad on these but mine was spot on.

I can ping you some links if you would like.

Yes please :). Shells can be way too hit and miss, would be good to have a tried and tested replacement.

Here you go mate - These are the exact suppliers I used.

Inner Plastics - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006326267415.html - Only £10 and helps if those clips are snapped.
Shell - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004922451196.html - £41 but worth it I think.
Thanks Vince, I might have to buy both to be on the safe side, one of the screws on the top has stripped. That Famicom shell looks lush. Do you have any recommendations for a good set of screwdrivers as well? :)

I bought both for the same reason, good that I did as the internal plastic was very brittle and was just cracking, all the clips that hold the front on were nasty and snapped and the thing was looking super rough... here is a look at fitment on the one I went for:

It's not 100% perfect and there are a couple of slightly off areas with the finish but overall I am very happy with it, especially the fitment as a friend of mine is having serious issues with some GBM shells they purchased cheaper on AliX - So I guess just be aware of the super cheap alternatives.

Hi,

Have you done any graphics card repairs?

I have a 2080ti that just died - no artefacting, the PC just decided that it could not be used and booted up using the onboard graphics instead. Device manager reports that windows is not using the 2080ti because the card is reporting a code 43.

Not the drivers, and tried a different graphics card which works, so almost certainly a hardware error on the 2080ti, and from I've read the most likely culprit is one or more memory chips, either a failed IC or cracked solder joints.

I have the MOD/MATS software, but still working out how to turn that into a bootable drive, but I suspect that will confirm that it is a memory problem and identify specific chips.

I'm comfortable in electronics, I have a degree in it and skilled with traditional soldering but I've never done any hot air, SMD stuff - I know the theory and would probably give it a go if I had the tools needed.

So just wondering whether you have done any such repairs and how you would rate them for difficulty.

If I had the gear I'd just jump in and have a go but as I would need to buy a hot air station on top of any replacement ICs it may not be financially worth it.

Hey buddy, I have done a few... I'll be honest success rate hasn't been great with GPUs but I'm aiming to work on some today.

Error 43 is just a pain really but if you can get the software to confirm it's a memory ic then imo they are not that difficult to change. If it's the imc which is fairly common then the card is done... not much you can do at that point.

If the software tells you it's an IC you could grab an IC and send it to me and I could swap the IC for you.

So I finally got around to fixing my turbo express consoles.. glad I had two as one underwent some major surgery... and a box of stuff turned up...

And yes I've been going a bit mad on windows handhelds... Probably paid a bit much on the ayaneo considering its broken but so far ive had good results playing with them if the ROG is anything to go by I should have it up and running in no time.

What’s gone wrong on the Xbox series X, I’d heard they were a faff due to cooling chamber on them.

It works just fine, crashes after about an hour of use. It's filthy inside so probably just needs a clean, some new paste and that's about it. Got it massively cheap so thought why not.

Whats the white docky looking thing?

I have no idea. I sort of buy broken stuff by the kg so sometimes I get random stuff. It's something playstation 5 related but I have no idea what it is, talking of which I had a working disc edition ps5 a few weeks back, literally paid £100 for it but it was sold to a mate of mine before it even got here.
