Vince's Ebay Repair Thread - (Console Repairs & Mods)

I've got a few hand helds in the loft, original game boy, Sega Game Gear, DS, DS Lite.

All working.

Are they worth selling?

Some of them are worth decent money - original gameboy working depending on condition is £50 or more. Game gear - Depends if its working/recapped/boxed. The original ds are cheap generally but yea some of it is probably worth selling.

Everdrive is a Chinese knock off jobbie so even that wont be here for like a month or something. I love the Colour but its still silly expensive to make a decent library.

Yeah, I don't feel bad about piracy when the games are this old and prices are rocketing up. Game collecting is a rich mans hobby now. :D

I am for sure going to build up a little library it's just I would like to actually test a few games out and see what ones I would like in the collection as well. Tetris DX was an absolute must as are a few other titles but still at between like £30 - £350 for a game it's an awful lot of money to own and play on original hardware. I'm not sure entirely how I feel about it but there isn't really a better way to experience some of the library to decide what to buy.

so win win day today, 2 ebay dropoffs, a megadrive 1 for £12, and another GBA with power issues for 30 :) , so megadrive after cleaning the cart port and reflowing the power port is now perfect. works out the GBA is just the on / off switch!

Couple of decent ones there :) Whats your plan? Fix em up and sell them on?

Well I’m gonna do IPs on both gba , keep one sell the other , megadrive same keep one and shift on the other . Wanna try and get one of every console for myself as a collection. Always somthing I intended to do but didn’t . Just stripped the og Xbox apart and looking at it , came fully modded , wanna get board completely out and check the clock cap as they are know to leak and eat the board .

got a GameCube sat here to with a custom iced cube case on it , not even tested that yet :)

I need more toys to play with and fix on the bay, can’t see any good lots at the moment

Sounds like a plan, we are going to need pics of everything once done, you know this! And the thread needs this.

Your plan is sort of similar to what I am trying to do, I have no idea why as I don't really play a lot but I want a little collection. I kinda started on the handhelds and am trying to work my way to some bigger consoles and more vintage stuff. I used the profit out of the switches to give the wife a treat for xmas so that was pretty awesome. Currently playing with the software side of the megadrive mini running off of the 16gb plugged in and have been having a lot of fun modding it... I was thinking though there is still a spare usb port available on the mini so I could also give it wifi! Perhaps a project for another day!

I've got a ps1 mini also so might open that up and have a peek inside to see what fun can be had with it. If it's got a 4 port controller as well I think ill design a board to convert it to support 4 pads for a bit of fun, will still need to run wires from the IC to a daughter board but it should look a lot better than the megadrive mod. I have sort of come to a standstill for now until after xmas because im heading to Gibraltar in the morning to see my mum for a few days. When i'm back hopefully I can crack on with the master system, decide what to do with the DMG and look at the xbox. After that though unless we want to be restoring game pads for a while that we cant test, which doesn't sound like much fun, I think I need a gamecube, saturn, megadrive, snes and ps2 just to test the pads  So perhaps ill grab a few consoles if I can find any bargains.

The handheld collection here is coming along well though.. Some pics of the stuff we have restored and fixed etc so far! Not including all the switch lites... Which I did fix another yesterday but have given it away as an xmas present. Ill have to update th e spreadsheet on that at some point.

The handheld collection so far! I need to sort the shelves out and make it not look so packed!

And the growing games collection, a lot of these came with consoles and stuff. The psp ones I got on ebay cheap :)

I’ll start adding pics of everything , be good to get them in the thread, defo want to get a master system, one with Alex kid built in like when I was a kid . Got my eyes on a 3do too. Miss mine so see if I can get one to fix and keep

Damnit I came into this sub to post in the FF7R thread.

An hour later I still haven't done it.

:D Easy way to waste an hour!

I started a game called Mole Mania this week. Definitely recommend you throw that on the everdrive and give it a go.
Gameboy Color is the way forward.

Adding this one to the list! Seen a little video of it on youtube and seems that people love it! Very much looking forward to my everdrive clone :D

Best thread I've seen in a long time :) Thoroughly enjoyed and have bookmarked this

Nice of you to say sir, something a little different from the norm! After xmas I think some retro Atari may be in order!

Got me some more faulty consoles today :)

Something to play with next week, £44 which seems ok... I already have a psp but hopefully this one is more broken than my last one! Couple more games for the psp library and I may just fix the ps2 and shift it on pretty quickly. Not sure I actually want a ps2.

You say that now but in a couple of weeks you'll have a pile of the things, each one reading one type of disc and a fun labeling system to switch between when you change game...

We shall see. I'm sure I will have some fun with it regardless, especially the psp those little things are seriously underrated so adding a few games to that library is a winner. What I do envisage eventually being a problem is space, I mean I do have a lot of space but I'm not sure how much the Mrs is onboard with me filling the house full of games consoles.

No new pics from me , need to add all my old ones ! Will get on and do it asap with Christmas been so busy, another snes on route , ps2 and ps1 , currently bidding on a master system too :)

Just read the whole of this thread over Christmas. Mega jealous! Current day job as a software developer leaves me missing proper hands on work. I've done 3 or 4 soldering repairs this month but I'm itching to do some more advanced board level stuff.

Looks like we'll be moving house in the next few months but as soon as that's done I'm filling out the tool set with hot air and one of these:

Basically it injects power to anywhere on a board and allows current to flow, and you can figure out where a short is. Can even use a thermal camera to highlight exactly which component has failed or is receiving too much current.

Especially useful for complex stuff like laptops but probably good for graphics cards too, or anything that charges. Learned about it after binging on this guy's videos:
Sorely tempted to start buying bits now but I'd only struggle to keep it all tidy before we move. I've got a laptop board with a charging/power MOSFET issue so I know what project 1 is :) Then it'll be the box of 3x PS2s!
